Windows 10: Mouse pointer always busy due to Office xml handler

There is a thread somewhat similar about the problem here but it is locked. In addition the first reply references a totally incorrect solution. The second reply answer is not appropriate for me as I do not have a language pack that I could find.The symptom was the windows 11 mouse pointer was always busy and system was full of timeouts event viewer and running very slow..An online repair of office fixed the problem but using "open with" I see that two "Office XML handlers show up"This is in addition to notepad and wordpad.Only one of the "Office XML handlers" work, the one one does n

You can change the default application associated with each file type from Windows Settings. To change the default app by file type, follow these steps:



1. Go to
Settings.

2. Click
System.

3. Select
Default apps.

4. Click the
Choose default apps by file type option at the bottom of the page.

5. Look for
.xls file from the list of file types, then click the
Office XML Handler beside it.

6. Choose the application you would like to associate it with.

Can anyone help please? I have been 'helping' a friend download and install office 2016 student pack. When it had finished i accidentally associated an xls file with office xml handler. How do I sort this out please?

Mouse Pointer

Hi,

You can customize your mouse in a variety of ways in Windows. To change how your mouse pointer looks, you can follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the Start menu, then click Control Panel.
• Select Mouse, then go to the Pointers tab.
  
• Select the pointer you prefer from the drop-down list, click
  Apply > OK.

If you want to use a pointer that is not on the list, you can download it online. After that, go to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers tab again, then click
Browse.
