Windows 10: Mouse pointer changes to Text Select when hovering over task bar in Windows 11

Recently my mouse pointer has started to show the Text Select I-beam icon when hovering the mouse over anything on the Taskbar. The mouse pointer is an arrow anywhere else on the screen. I can't find a setting that controls how the mouse pointer looks when hovering over the taskbar. How do I change it so the mouse pointer is an arrow when hovering over the taskbar? I'm using Windows 11 Home, Version 22H2, Build 22621.1555.

Text select pointer goes completely white colored when hovering over black text with a white background.

Hello, a couple of days ago, windows updates installed a new AMD display driver. Since then, the text select pointer has been going completely white colored when I hover over black text with a white background (This happens on all websites and on both Edge & Chrome, so it seems like a driver issue) and then it becomes extremely hard to tell where the mouse pointer is, because the white color blends well with the white background. However, if I move the mouse pointer a bit and also click 1 time, the text select cursor goes back to being black colored (which is what it is supposed to be when it is hovering over black text)

Some notes:

• The machine is a Lenovo laptop.
  
• OS: Windows 11
  
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics 2.10 GHz
  
• RAM: 8GB
  
• The new driver version with the issue: 31.0.12016.9
  
• I clean installed windows 11 today and the issue still persists.
  
• Before I clean installed windows 11, I rolled back to the previous driver using Device Manager, and that fixed the issue.
  

 

Windows 11 Drag & Drop (on task bar)

This is the Windows 11 solution for me. I installed Windows 11 Pro 2 days ago (1-19-2022) and got all updates.

Open a desktop app such as Chrome. Notice that the Chrome icon now shows up in the task bar. Just hover the mouse pointer over this icon, right click and select "pin to task bar". So far it's working.

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. To turn off the pointer or mouse hovering on your laptop, follow these steps:

• In Cortana search, type in Mouse.
• Click Mouse and Touchpad settings in the search result.
• Turn off the Mouse Hover Switch.

You may also look for Tap to Click and have it turned off. Here's how:

• In Cortana search, type in Mouse.
• Click Mouse and Touchpad settings in the search result.
• Click Additional Mouse Options and select the Thinkpad tab.
• Click Settings.
• Under the General tab, uncheck Tap to Click option.
