Windows 10: mouse pointer gone

I am using the same win10 computer for over a year. Yesterday my wireless mouse pointer disappeared. I bought a new wireless mouse and when I restarted the computer it recognized the mouse ... but still no mouse pointer. So I switched to a wired usb mouse, and the computer gave me a message that it recognized that mouse, but I still can't see a mouse pointer. I went to mouse settings and ran diagnostics. The messages told me to check device manager for mouse, but it only showed me the word General with no options.I have reset the pointer size to 10 and still no pointer shows. I use a black scr

Very concerning indeed. As a first step I would want to know how you are magnifying your mouse pointer. I assume you are going to Settings, Ease of Access, Mouse, and from there you are changing the pointer size.

I followed these steps and I was able to make my mouse pointer larger. So I know it works for some PCs. Just not yours.

Normally I suggest updated mouse drivers but in your case you already tried a different mouse so I would go in a different direction to troubleshoot your issue. First I would clean boot your PC. See if that step resolves your issue.

The goal of this step is to see if some other software is running on your PC that conflicts with your mouse. If this step resolves the issue the goal is to try to find the software that is conflicting and disable it, remove it, or update it so it no longer
conflicts. Don't forget to reverse the steps of the clean boot when you are done trying this step.

You can customize your mouse in a variety of ways in Windows. To change how your mouse pointer looks, you can follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the Start menu, then click Control Panel.
• Select Mouse, then go to the Pointers tab.

If you want to use a pointer that is not on the list, you can download it online. After that, go to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers tab again, then click

Mouse pointer gone

I did not enlarge the mouse pointer using Ease of Access. I went to Settings - Devices - Mouse & Touchpad - Additional Mouse Options. Then under the Pointers tab I clicked on the Scheme arrow and selected a large system mouse. I no longer remember which
one I actually selected, and I'm not willing to experiment to find out because it was such a pain to fix.

It is highly unlikely that any of my software is interfering with the mouse pointer software since I used the larger mouse pointer for years on W7 before I upgraded to W10 and I have not added any new programs for several months.

I suppose I could try a clean boot, but to see if that fixes the problem I would have to risk invoking the problem again. I don't really want to do that for a "try this" suggestion. I'll wait until someone else has a similar problem so we can collaborate.
