Windows 10: Mouse scroll wheel moves slowly when USB is unplugged and plugged back in.

I have two computers at the same desk, work and personal, and I want to move the USB dongle from one to the other as necessary. I'm using an MS Sculpt Ergo Desktop mouse and keyboard, and both machines are running Windows 11. When I remove the dongle from my tower machine and put it back in, the scroll wheel moves very slowly. If I reboot the machine, the scroll wheel moves correctly again. I don't have this problem on the laptop, only the tower machine. I want the scroll behaviour to stay the same when I remove and replace the dongle. Suggestions?

Brand new scuplt mouse (for Desktop, USB) not scrolling

Just plugged in the USB dongle for the sculpt ergonomic desktop and installed the mouse and keyboard center 11. Keyboard works. Mouse moves cursor and button clicks work. But the scroll wheel does nothing. In a browser window, if I click the wheel I get
the scrolling arrows, but spinning the wheel does nothing.

In mouse properties, it doesn't matter whether I set it to move some lines or a screen for each notch of wheel rotation.

In the mouse and keyboard center, I have scrolling turned on. If I change settings not related to scrolling, they take effect, but scrolling settings do nothing.

Exact same situation when I plug the dongle into my laptop.

Trying different USB ports doesn't help. Drivers are up to date. Removing devices from device manager and rebooting returns to the same state.

I'm concluding the scroll wheel is a dud, but wonder if anybody has any suggestions?

Hi Darren,

So the mouse wheel when moving up/down does not scroll, correct?

Is it a wired, or wireless mouse? Lets unplug the usb connection, reboot your pc, and then plug it back in. See if the scroll is back.

Let me know if this works, and we'll go from there.
