How to Move Your Favorites Folder Location in Windows 10

Your favorites from Internet Explorer are saved into your Favorites folder.

By default, Windows stores your personal Favorites folder in your account's %UserProfile% folder (ex: "C:\Users\Brink").

You can change where files in this Favorites folder are stored to another place on the hard drive, another drive, or another computer on the network.

This tutorial will show you how to move the default location of your Favorites folder to where you want in Windows 10.

*Warning It is highly recommended to create a system image backup first to make it easy to undo if you were to make a mistake in the steps below.

    Here's How:

    1. If you haven't already, you will need to create a new folder named Favorites at the location (ex: "E:" ) you want to move your personal Favorites folder to. (see screenshot below)

    5. Browse to and select the Favorites folder at the location (ex: "E:\Favorites" ) from step 1, and click/tap on Select Folder. (see screenshot below)

    6. Click/tap on OK to apply. (see screenshot below)

    7. Click/tap on Yes to move all the files (website favorites) from the old location to the new location without breaking them in Internet Explorer. (see screenshot below)

    8. Your personal Favorites folder and all of its contents will now be moved to the new location (ex: "E:\Favorites" ). (see screenshot below)

Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

    No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

    any more suggestions

I am not able to open favorites folder or sub folders under it in EDGE browser

    Hi Rodney,

We appreciate you for being a part of Windows 10.

Before proceeding, we need more information to help you better.

    • Did you checked whether you are able to see the favorite’s folder under your users?

    • Are you able to see the Favorites bar on EDGE browser?

    • Does the EDGE browser close/crashes only when you try to open the favorites folder or any other scenarios?
Note: By default the favorite’s folder will be present under your user’s folder. Follow the below steps to check if you are able to view the favorites.

    • Open the ‘C’ drive on your computer. If your OS is installed on any other drive, open that one.
    • Under the ‘Users’ section, locate the name of your system’s main admin account and open its folder.
    • Locate the folder named ‘favorites’ and open it. In short, the path for this folder becomes as follows (assuming the system drive to be ‘C’ and your account name to be ‘Hamza’).

      C:\users\hamza\favorites\
