Windows 10: Move old hard drive to new computer with windows 10

My old computer with windows 10 installed with a 1tb SSD the old computer has failed but the hard dive is still working, my question is how do I install the old SSD hard drive with windows10 installed on it to my new computer? The new computer is almost the same as the old computer was, only difference is the new computer is a intel 7 processor the old computer was an intel 5. I do not want to loose the programs or the windows 10 activation when I install it into my new computer. Can this be done? if so can you send me instructions?

new system old hard drive...

I have an old hard drive that has those old ribbon connections to transfer data to the mother board.

I have a new computer that mostly uses those cool little ATA (I think that is what they are called) connections.

The new computer has a Vista OS.

I opened up the case and I was supprised to see on the motherboard a wide ribbon connection and so I connected the old hard drive and a free power connection.

When I turned on the computer, the system started up like usual and did not notice the new hard drive.

I went to the Control Pannel and did an automatic add hard drive call and it did not find the old hard drive.

Any suggestions?

 

Old Hard drive to new hard drive

I now have my old hard drive converted to an external drive and am wondering what is the best way to move files from the old to the new. I was thinking of booting the old drive and saving the files I want to the cloud and then downloading them to my new
computer. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

 

Installing old hard drive to new computer

I have purchased a new computer and was wanting to reformat my old hard drives and install them on my new computer. I have windows 10 on my new computer so i want to just use the 2 hard drives i have on my old computer for storage. So i have a 250gb hardrive
with windows 10 and a 500gb hard drive which is just for storage. I would like to reformat both of these drives and install them. Thanks for any help you can give
