  1. Moved Downloads Folder into User

Hey, basically I messed up and accidentally moved my downloads folder from my C drive as my user folder. I was trying to move my downloads folder into my F drive so it could be the default downloads folder but I accidentally clicked a button which caused my downloads folder to turn into my user's folder on the C drive.

First I panicked, but I quickly found this helpful answer to the question here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...r/d849c070-a108-485d-bb41-229d9f56d6c4?page=1. I followed it down and did all the things. Here's a pic of the regedit.exe file thing.

***at first I set it the %USERPROFILE%\Downloads but later on, I move it back, you'll see

After going through all the steps, it still didn't work. I scrolled down to look at all the replies and I saw that the OP said it initially didn't work but he found that the downloads folder didn't behave like a downloads folder. I looked at the folder and it still was and is behaving like a downloads folder, seen below. I couldn't edit the name and when I looked in the Sharing tab it said the name was f_alf which is the folder name for the user.

I looked more at the replies and saw that it might take a while for the folder to update. So I restarted the computer for the 50th time and watched some youtube while crying inside.

After a while, I decide to come back to my computer, and what happened was weird. Now, in both my Quick Access section and the This PC section of the left tab of the files window, the downloads folder was there, but it was empty. I looked everywhere and I couldn't find its actual location so I went on the properties straight from the Quick Access section and moved the location of the folder, this time I created a new folder in my F drive like I was supposed to and moved that folder to my F drive. Everything went smoothly, I even put a text file in there to make sure it was the same downloads folder. That's why on the regedit.exe pic above it says it's in my F drive under downloads.

But the downloads folder that merged with my user's thing on the C drive is still there!!! In fact, in my F drive downloads folder, there is no folder icon even though it's clearly the same folder on the left bar and that one has an icon. The downloads folder on the Quick Access and the one in my F drive also open to two different properties tabs.

Anyway, I'm stumped. I didn't want to try anything else and I just want my old f_alf folder back so I can sleep at night haha. Thanks in advance for any help I get.

    :)

Move Users Folder Location in Windows 10

If not the best way to do that but at least the way I recommend:

    • "Empty" your user profile folders as much as you can, copying documents, pics, videos, music and all other personal data from all user profiles to external HDD. As following steps require you to relocate Users folder two times, the less data is left in user profile folders, the faster the relocation process. Important: Leave system folder AppData for each profile intact, do not empty / move its content!
    • Reverse the relocating, doing exactly as told in tutorial Method Two but this time relocating Users folder back to C: drive
    • Shut down the PC, replace the disk where you had Users relocated
    • Mount the new disk, boot to Windows, assign new disk the same drive ID letter than the old one had
    • Again, do as told in Method Two, now relocating Users to new disk
    • Restore the backed up personal user data from external drive to respective folders under each user profile

  3. Setting New Location Of User Folder to another User Folder

    Hi Renee,

Having an easy access to the Desktop folder can give you a convenience on opening your files. Regarding your concern about the Desktop folder that was moved to the Downloads section, we recommend that you create a new local user or administrator account to
    resolve the issue.

To create a local user or administrator account, follow the steps listed on this
    link
    .

In addition, to move your files from the Downloads folder back to the Desktop folder, we suggest that you manually copy and paste the files to avoid any data loss.

Feel free to post back if you need more help.

How to move c:\ user\current user\ local folder from download folder

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand how frustrating it is when things don’t work at times. As Windows 10 Technical Preview is still a developer version, issues may occur I will be glad to assist you in this issue.

Follow the steps to change the location of the Download folder. You can follow the same steps if you want to move the
    c:\ user\current user\ local folder:

    • In the New User see many folders such as Account Pictures, Contacts, Desktop, Downloads, My Pictures and others folders. You can choose the Downloads Folder.

    • In the Downloads Folder, you can right-click on Downloads Folders and choose the Property.

    • After opening the properties, you can see the General tab, Sharing tab, Security tab and Location tab. You click on the Location tab.

    • After clicking on the Location tab, you can see the Downloads Location which shows in the figure below and click on the Move Button.

    • In this you see a new Window; you can give the new Location that you want and first give the drive name and then give the folder name. In this you can change the older Location and give the new Location name where you want and
then click on the Apply Button. These are shows in the figure.

    • The new popup Window shows and click on the Yes Button.

    • In this you can see the popup Windows and click on the Yes Button. In this you can see the old Location and new Location

    • In this you can see the name of the new Location under the Location Tab and click ok. In this the old Location can be altered to the new Location.

    • After completing all the steps, you can see the Downloads Folder in the new Location.

Let us know if the above information helped you. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.
