Windows 10: moved hard drive from one PC to another. Re Activate Windows?

All is working fine except it is telling me we need to reactivate Windows.


Broken PC was an older Compaq, newer (still old) is an HP. All works fine but the need to reactivate Windows is here.


Please advise best options.

I can't activate Windows 10. Motherboard on my laptop died. It was a fully licensed copy of Windows 10, electronic update during first year free upgrade period of Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I moved my hard drive to a desktop PC but the activation didn't
follow the hard drive. If Windows was activated on the laptop why can't I activate it on the desktop PC?

 

External Hard Drive

Hi John,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
