Windows 10: Moved my desktop onto an HDD, and then that HDD promptly got corrupted

As it says, I moved my desktop from C Drive to the D Drive, and then the D Drive got corrupted with my desktop, now I can no longer open apps, file explorer, run programs, download files, etc. My computer is mostly just dead weight, is there anything I can do or should I just call my loses and restart my whole laptop from scratch?

corrupt hdd

I have an 8 year old ibm thinkpad r51 and it now has a corrupt internal hdd...... i dont no much about computers so please suggest what i should do?
