I was having issues with opening Steam and wanted to delete and reinstall it, but to be safe I decided to move the "steamapps" folder which contains all my games and data to my desktop. I quickly changed my mind as the folder is 117GB and it wasn't moving from 0%. After pausing and cancelling I realised the folder was no longer in it's original location on the hard drive but had moved to the desktop. I checked the properties and all 117GB files are there. I tested one of the games, that doesn't need to be launched through steam, and the save files weren't there, everything had reset but I can see the original save files in the moved folder...

Are all the files really there, is it too good to be true?

Is it safe to assume the move was successful?

Will the files disappear in the future?

Can I move the folder back to its original location after reinstalling steam and get all my games and progress back?

I'm going to hibernate my computer instead of switching it off until I'm sure I still have all the files.

    :)

  3. Moving Librariy files and folders to secondary hard drive

    Hi Bailey,

We appreciate you for being part of Windows 10.

Yes, as you said you will face problems if you cut and paste the library folders to the new hard drive. If you cut and paste the libraries folder some of the Windows functions such as Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos
    will not work properly

If you want to access the library folders in the new hard drive, I suggest you to copy the Library folders (Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos). Follow the steps to copy the library folders.

    • Press Windows + E keys on the keyboard to open Windows explorer.

    • Find the Libraries on the left navigation pane of the Windows Explorer. (If libraries are not there, click on
View tab at the top of Windows explorer, click on Navigation pane and select the
      Show Libraries)

    • Now, right click on Libraries from the left navigation pane and click on
      Copy.

    • Open the new hard drive and paste the Libraries folder by pressing
CTRL + V key on the keyboard. (paste the libraries folders on the new hard drive where ever you want)

As you have less space on the primary hard drive, I suggest you to follow the below article to free up drive space.

I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

Desktop Folder move to another drive trouble

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to Windows and am setting up my new machine, I followed these directions to move my desktop folder to a different drive(by Aileen Alf almost to the bottom): Move Users folder to another drive

A new folder was not created on the E:\ drive, it just put the only thing on the desktop on the new drive which is an alias for Microsoft Edge. I have tried to restore Default in Properties, Location but I get an error saying "The folder can't be moved here
Failed to build the list of regular subdirectories under "E:\System Volume Information".

In File Explorer next to the Desktop icon it shows E:\ rather than saying Desktop so it really did move the folder there but its going into the main part of the drive without a folder named Desktop.

I read several other ways to move the folder and they say to create the folders on the new drive first but I followed this procedure as it was given by a Microsoft Agent in this community.

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Best,

    G.A.
