    Movie and TV editing tool no longer compresses video


    on 02/12/22 i asked this question: I've been using the Win 10 photos app to shrink the size of videos for the last 2.5 years until about 10 days ago. Now there is no comparable shrinkage in the file size without a significant loss in image quality. If I retain the image quality the file size bloats. I use the trim function to shave a couple of secs off the run time. The app has clearly had an upgrade as its appearance has changed. Any ideas how to restore the file reduction properties. I then got a reply saying:Instead of using the features in your photo program, you could try opening the vid

    Thank you, I will try the initial troubleshooting steps you suggested. I didn't make any changes to my desktop and laptop, unless an automatic update changed something without me knowing. I am able to play the videos using 3rd party apps (KM and VLC),
    but they no longer play on the Movies & TV app which I prefer.

    Please don't reset the app or do any those steps that the previous poster suggested, they're unnecessary and can cause other problems.

    The first step to try is restoring your purchases from within the settings menu of the Movies & TV app.

    Click the … then select Settings, select Restore my available video purchases.

    Give it a few minutes to run, then go back to the Purchased tab and try playing the movie again.

    Movies & TV app not working properly.

    Hi,

    I suggest you to un-install and re-install Movies & TV App and check. Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows Key.
    • Type Windows Powershell.
    • Right click on it and select Run as administrator.
    • Type in the following command to un-install Movies & TV App.
    get-appxpackage *Microsoft.ZuneVideo* | remove-appxpackage

    Note: The Movies & TV App can be reinstalled using the Store App or by following the link mentioned below. You will need to exit the Store app if it is already open before reinstalling the app.
