Windows 10: Movies & TV app won't open .mov file - time sensitive

I recorded a video for a school project on an iPhone 10, uploaded it to Google Drive (too large to be attached in an email), and downloaded the video to my laptop. When I tried to open the video in Movies & TV, it first indicated I should purchase an updated codec for $0.99 (HEVC Video Extensions) to play the file (.mov), which seemed like an easy enough fix. Unfortunately, after the new codec had installed, the video still wouldn't open and I received the error code 0xc00d5213. Not only do I need to view the video, I need to edit it as well. I'm not sure if that will cause more issues. The video will play in Windows Media Player.


My laptop is an HP Pavilion 15-au057cl using Windows 10 Home.


(This issue is time sensitive due to this video and the rest of the assignment being a project worth 25% of my final grade. Due to a series of unfortunate events the recording session was severely delayed, and if the final product is not turned in within 31 hours from now I will receive a zero. So, that's fun.)

Associate Movies & TV program to Adobe Bridge

Open Windows File Explorer

Find a .mov file

Right click and choose 'Open With' - Choose another App

Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open .mov files'

Scroll down the list to find Movies and TV app

Select that and click OK

This will set the file association so Movies and TV as the default for .mov files

Then from Bridge when you try to open a .mov file it will open in the Movies and TV app

 

.MOV file will not play


You have 2 options:

1. Download and install Quicktime Player to play .mov: QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows OR
2. Download and install Handbrake: HandBrake: Open Source Video Transcoder and convert .mov file to another format such as .avi or .mp4 then you can play with VLC or with Movies & TV App that came installed with Windows.

 

Movies & TV app not working properly.

I suggest you to un-install and re-install Movies & TV App and check. Follow the steps:

• Press Windows Key.
• Type Windows Powershell.
• Right click on it and select Run as administrator.
• Type in the following command to un-install Movies & TV App.

get-appxpackage *Microsoft.ZuneVideo* | remove-appxpackage

Note: The Movies & TV App can be reinstalled using the Store App or by following the link mentioned below. You will need to exit the Store app if it is already open before reinstalling the app.
