  1. Moving a ReFS storage pool to new hardware

I have 4 6TB WD-Red drives in a two-way mirror setup, partitioned into multiple "drives." The workstation is about to be gutted and a new mobo, CPU and RAM installed.

My question is, does anybody know whether the storage pool will survive, given I can't guarantee the drive cables will be jacked into the new mobo the same as the old. I think I remember reading when I first set it up that ReFS is self-configuring but cannot find that info now.

If someone can speak from personal experience or follow up with links pointing one way or the other I'd appreciate it. In the meantime I'll keep looking and of course be backing everything up.

    Thanks!

    :)

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?

  3. Moving a storage device to a whole new set of hardware

You can certainly move the SSD but Windows will not run for these reasons:

    • Invalid product key. All Windows product keys are tied to the hardware (CPU, motherboard etc.)
    • Invalid HAL. The correct Hardware Abstraction Layer gets established at installation time. It will be incorrect when moving the disk to different hardware.

    Not happy with Storage Pools.

If you moved the folders that are members of the libraries to the storage pool and did not just include the storage pool drive(s) in the libraries ... then it ahould work as you seem to be expecting.

A storage pool is nothing more than a virtual raid. I think your issue lies with your library setup.

A library is essentially a shortcut to several (usually) folders you (or someone else) deemed to be related. The location of the folders in the library is where ever you created it in the first place (or their default location or where you moved that location
to in terms of user profile folders like documents and pictures.)

    So..

Please post images of your storage pool setup and the thing where you think files are being mirrored...
