Windows 10: Moving a script from Windows Server 2008 to Server 2012.

I have a script that runs on Windows Server 2008 that will not work on Windows 2012. It is connecting to an Oracle database that can connect on both servers. The line that fails is the connection string below.

Upgrade from server 2008 to server 2012

We are currently running Server 2008 standard SP2. The only CAL licenses we have are for terminal server users (20). We want to upgrade to
Server 2012 or Server 2016 to stay current but are a little confused about the migration path and the user CAL's involved for each. Thanks in advance for any help, Peter

 

Free Windows Server 2008 (and 2008 R2) for students

Microsoft recently added Windows Server 2008 R2 to Dreamspark, so now Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2 are available for free to any student enrolled in a class at any of the universities on their list. Windows Server 2008 R2 can be converted so that it is like Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 can be converted so that it is like Vista. I'm still running XP Pro, but only until I find a free antivirus program for server operating systems *Roll Eyes

 

server 2008 r2 inplace upgrade to 2012 r2 essentials?

I have less than 5 users, so I'd like to go to an essentials license when get off of 2008. I see all these docs about moving ro srndard from essentials, but can I do an in place upgrade to a 2012 ( or by steps to 2016 and use a essentials server license?
Or must this be a new install?
