Moving all of SSD storage to a new HDD empty drive

Hello, I'm using an HP Elitebook 840 G3, and my SSD has been very slow lately. My PC takes about a minute and a half to boot, and it started to lag, so I bought a new drive that is an HDD, and I want to move everything from the SSD to it, including users folder and the other folders in windows/program files without causing any issue, and I've got no clue how, since I need to restart the SSD and completely erase it to fix it, so any help on how to perform the operation successfully will be very appreciated.

    :)

Storage setup with a SSD and HDD

    Hi

I have just purchased an HP Pavillion Desktop with a 256GB SSD and 2TB HDD, I have initialised windows, choosing to use OneDrive for backup and storage (I have 1TB cloud storage with 365) and also updated windows and drivers. I have not transferred
any data from my old pc yet.

I now wish to setup the pc to have the operating system and program files on the SSD as they are currently and all my Files/Pictures/Music etc on the HDD but I am unsure of the correct procedures and order in which to carry them out. I also want to
continue using OneDrive for backup and file access from other devices.

I am aware of the following:

    • The OneDrive folder is currently on the SSD and is backing up the default Desktop, Documents and Pictures. I wish to move this folder to the HDD but I am not when to do this, looking at the steps below, to prevent any sync issues
    • I know I can move my user folders, Documents, Pictures etc to the HDD by changing the location of these from C: (SSD) to D: (HDD), leaving the User/Username folder on C:
    • I have also noticed that in Settings/System/Storage I can 'change the location where new content is saved' for these folders, what is the difference between this and moving the location of the folders as detailed above.

Can anyone advise on the best/correct method of setting my system up going forward?

    Thanks

  3. Storage Utilization Suggestion, new PC with SSD & HDD

I recently purchased a new Dell XPS 8930 with a 256gb SSD and 2tb HDD.

What would be the best recommendation to utilize these effectively.

I've yet to unbox this Desktop PC as I want to research all best solutions before I move data from old PC and/or re-install software.

I assume the Windows 10 Pro will be installed on the SSD as the primary C: drive.

I also assume the HDD will merely be treated as a secondary drive (e..g., not set as a default data drive).

Should I set the HDD as a data drive (e.g., default folder for Documents, Pictures, Downloads etc.) ?

If so, what is the best way to do this (e.g., via settings/storage menu or via folder properties move to new location) ?

Will any of this cause issues with OneDrive syncing ?

Should all new software installs be set up on the HDD even though new software entries will end up in the registry file on the SSD drive C ?

FYI - I do NOT have any storage shortage issues... I currently only utilize just under 100gb on my old PC, so in reality I could run everything on SSD, but preventing writes to SSD will extend its life.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Moving all of SSD storage to a new HDD empty drive

Moving Windows from HDD to SSD

Ok, background. Got a PC from a relative, 2013 dell prebuilt, not bad, but time to upgrade. I have been using it for maybe a year and a half. It has a 1TB HDD that I have many files on. Building a new PC, have everything but case and SSD. I want to use
a 64GB SSD for boot drive, and HDD for mass storage. I got my current PC ready by removing the 1TB HDD and installing a 231GB laptop from a laptop that was barley functioning. How do I configure my HDD and move my OS? Should I install a new one on the SSD
and then transfer the activation? I know I can just use my HDD, but I want a clean Windows install, without any old drivers conflicting with my new system. How would I go about doing this? Also what would be the best way to configure an SSD boot drive and
separate HDD mass storage for files and programs?
