Moving date from Outlook.com to the Outlook program in Office 365

I'm helping a friend upgrade her computer and one of the things I did was helped her acquire and install a copy of Personal Office 365, which includes Outlook 2016. She's been doing her email on Outlook.com until now but now wants to use Outlook 2016.

I'm trying to figure out how to make all her various folders and email visible in Outlook 2016 but have no idea how to do it; I have very little experience with either Outlook or Outlook.com.

Can someone tell me what I need to do? It would be absolutely fine to point me to a tutorial; I just don't know what search term to use with Google. I have to assume this is a simple, routine thing that millions of people have done. I just don't know where to find instructions.

She's running Windows 10 as her OS.

    :)

windows phone 8 sync tasks with outlook on my pc? OTA?

Office 365 task sync is no issue, but in order to sync tasks with Outlook on your computer and Outlook.com, you'll need to upgrade to Outlook 2013.

Windows Phone 8 supports task sync from Exchange/Office 365 accounts and Outlook.com accounts.

Best Practices for Outlook365 and WP8.1

Okay, we need to clarify terminology here, just so you and I are on the same page for things.

Office 365 is Microsoft's subscription pack for Office. There's a business version and a home version. The price makes me think you got the home version.

Outlook.com is the free online email service from Microsoft. It was formerly called Hotmail. Outlook.com is what your contacts and calendars are syncing to.

Outlook 2013 is a program on your computer that is install via your Office 365 subscription.

There is no product called Outlook 365.

If Outlook 365 means Outlook 2013, and you see duplicates in Outlook 2013, my guess is that the old PST is still hooked up to Outlook 2013, right? If so, the Contacts view may be showing the contacts on Outlook.com and in the PST. If you close the PST from
Outlook, do the duplicates go away? If you look on
    Outlook.com People
, do you see duplicates there?

Have you synced your phone to your Microsoft account yet? Do you see duplicates on your phone?

Moving date from Outlook.com to the Outlook program in Office 365

Hi. Here's a little info on Outlook files:
Introduction to Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost) - Outlook

Your pst/ost file needs to be located and copied, (for a backup). You then export it through the O2013 program, and import it to the new outlook 2016.

Edit: no, wait - she was using Outlook.com? hmmm.....now I have to think about that. I think you can just setup the account in O2016, and everything should sync?

    Here it is:

Export or backup email, contacts, and calendar to an Outlook .pst file - Office Support

My ribbon says "Office 365" or looks different from the picture

If your ribbon doesn't looks like the Outlook desktop one, you might be using Outlook on the web, which looks like this:

Moving date from Outlook.com to the Outlook program in Office 365 [IMG]

Or, you might be using the Outlook Web App. The Outlook Web App ribbon looks like this:

Moving date from Outlook.com to the Outlook program in Office 365 [IMG]

A third possibility is you're using the Mail app for Windows 10. That ribbon looks like this:

Moving date from Outlook.com to the Outlook program in Office 365 [IMG]

For all three of these apps your email information is stored in the cloud. These apps don't have a feature to export all the data from your email account. The way you export the email data from your account is to use Outlook for your desktop.
If you recently purchased Outlook for your desktop, you can add your email account to Outlook on your desktop. Outlook on your desktop will sync with Outlook on the web (or Outlook Web App) and you'll see your email, contacts, and calendar on your desktop. You can then use Outlook on your desktop to import or export email, contacts, or calendar any time you want using the instructions in this article.

  6. When I set up my Windows Mail app all I did was enter my e-mail addresses and passwords
    Everything then sync over
I can still open my mail in Outlook.com
    Also in Outlook 2016
So should in fact work the same
In The Mail App all that is different is instead of opening each e-mail separately you can link them
So they all come into one inbox

Thanks to you both for pointing me in the right direction. Unfortunately, when I went into Outlook 2016 and tried to add the account that my friend is using in Outlook.com, I got sync errors. It's not remotely clear what the causes of those errors is: it merely says "Sync errors" in the ribbon with no further clarification that I can see.

Any ideas why that would happen or how to get more information about the error? I was hoping to see at least an 8 digit hex error code like X'ABCD1234' that I could look up. Otherwise, I suppose we will have to call Microsoft and take advantage of their free tech support. Office 365 comes with a few weeks of free initial tech support.

You could try looking in the Outlook forum or Office 365 Forum and see if anyone else has had the same trouble.
Also see if you can Sync again later as sometime it needs a boot up the bottom to wake it up
Lucky I have never had that trouble but I know some members have
Have you looked in the Tutorial
Brink might have posted about it
