Windows 10: Moving default folder locations caused folders to merge and disappear, losing all of my...

I've lost the contents of the "Pictures" folder, and a folder named "Desktop" but the contents are in the folder named "Pictures" in my wife's account trying to move them from the C to D drive.To free up space on the C drive, I began moving my wife's default folders to the D drive. I started with Pictures, by going to the Properties menu, selecting location, and clicking Move, then selecting the folder D:\Users\wife not actually "wife," but her name.I then started on the Desktop folder before it was completed, moving it in the same manner.When it was done, the folder D:\Users\wife had disa

Disappearing folder

I've encountered a strange problem in windows 10 where I tried to delete a file in a folder, but ended up deleting the whole directory. It did so without the usual pop-up to confirm delete or say it was too big for the recycle bin. It was my Videos folder, so pretty big, but the disk allocation has also remained the same.

I've always had a problem with 'double icons' for the different user folders, including videos, and so I'm thinking it could have something to do with the whole thing, especially as now one of the two video folders has disappeared from the users folders.

The first thing i tried was 'Undo delete', but it just bought the folder back with non of the contents. Then, I went straight to Recuva, but it came up blank (there must have been over 50 videos in the folder)

I'm at a little bit of a loss as where to start looking for this disappeared folder and was hoping someone might have some suggestions?

Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

Merge Document Folders

Yes, it remains [because it is a copy operation].
Yes, its contents can then be deleted [but leave the folder itself for now pending your other decisions].

You can just build up your own set of folders on your E:\ drive to suit your own needs. You do not have to go further unless you want to do so.

You can ask questions about any of those steps. I suggest you copy & post any para that you want to ask questions about so that there are no misunderstandings about what each question refers to.

** That para is what NavyLCdr is referring to with his WinAero link. There are TenForumsTutorials for each of these 'relocations'. I have done each of them but other people have commented that doing so is not essential.

Yes, those TenForumsTutorials about user folder 'relocation' each include an option to do the merging for you. I always move/copy them myself first because I once had the relocation procedure make a mess of the merging so I play safe.
