Windows 10: Moving folders from onedrive to c:/

Just recd new laptop with Win11. Do not like way MS has structured to dop my files under onedrive. Do not want Onedrive backup or files hidden deeply in file structure. I prefer files to be under c directory for easy access. Have been relocating to this drive. DOCUMENTS refuses to move. Get indecipherable message "Documents cannot move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that cannot be redirected. Access is denied." How do I overcome this and get the documents folder moved to c:/Documents. Also how do I move desktop from onedrive to C:/Desktop? Very frustrating!!!

When you set up OneDrive to sync with your computer, a folder C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive will be created to store the contents. XXXX denotes your username. To move this folder to another location follow these simple steps:

1. Unlink OneDrive from your PC:

• Go to the taskbar notification area
• Right-click on the OneDrive icon
• Select settings
• Click: Unlink this PC

2. Delete the C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive folder

3. Create a new folder (target folder) for OneDrive contents, e.g. D:\OneDrive

4. Create Directory Junction for the new folder

• In the search area of the taskbar type CMD and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter
• In the command window type

mklink /J C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive D:\OneDrive

adjusting it to your specific username and selection of the target folder

5. Link again OneDrive to your PC using the OneDrive icon in the taskbar notification area

 

Move the OneDrive Folder

I want to move my OneDrive folder to a different hard drive. When I follow these steps (unlink the PC from OneDrive, move the folder and set up OneDrive again), I cannot select a different location than the C:\User folder that was previously used. It tells
me that my administrator requires the OneDrive folder to go there. However, I am administrator of the computer, so I don't really understand what's going on. What should I do please?
