    MP4 file became MP file after cut & paste


    Yesterday I tried to move my videos from an Android phone to my Windows 10 computer by cutting the video and pasting it into the computer. However, I realised that the videos have converted from MP4 format to MP file format which I can't open anymore. Is there a way that I can recover my video with these MP files? These are the only video copy that I have since I cut and pasted them into the computer.

    MP4 becomes a MP file that cannot be played.

    Hi Clifford

    Right click one of those files and choose properties

    At the top of the resulting dialog, under File Type, is that reported as .mp?

    If you right click that file and choose Rename, if you change the .mp file extension to .mp4, does that file Play?

    I have a collection of MP4 files. When I try to play some of them Windows Media Player cannot play them. The on clue is that the troubled is identified in it's folder icon shows it as a MP. They were all MP4 originally. What does this mean and how do
    I restore them to play as a MP4 file?

    Cannot Paste a File after Cut or Copy a File because Paste is not available

    None of the suggestions have changed the situation. I still cannot cut or copy a FILE and then paste it. Paste is greyed out and cannot be selected. Is there a way that I can be sure the CUT or COPY is moving the data to the clipboard?

    Like I said in my original problem description, I can cut or copy and paste DATA from within applications, but not FILES from within File Explorer.

    Thanks for any help you may give me.
