    mpam files filling hard disk

I have a Windows 10 system which is experiencing an issue whereby hundreds of files are being deposited under C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp each file is named mpam-######## a seemingly random 8 digit HEX number. Each file is ~150MB but the size varies. Based on the date modified timestamp they are being placed there several times per day at seemingly random times. This is causing an issue whereby the hard disk is filling up. I deleted all of the files but they are still being generated. Windows Disk Cleanup utility does not find these files or remove them.

There is a log file in this same folder named MpCmdRun which seems to have an entry corresponding to each of these files. It appears that the files are Microsoft Defender definition files being downloaded from Windows Update. The PC has a third-party antivirus software installed, so Microsoft Defender is disabled. The log shows that the signature update process is failing.

Does anyone know how to stop these files from being generated? I've included some screenshots below.

  2. Hard disk filled up

The hard disk on my Vista computer seems to have filled up with unknown files. How can I identify them and clean them out? I have run WinDirStat and there are a lot of .cab, .edb and Manifest files. What can I do to remove the unwanted ones?

  3. Hard drive filled with invisible files.

My C:\ drive, which holds the Windows 10 OS, programs data/files and a little bit of user data, shows that I have used roughly 600gb of space (first image below) on a 1TB SSD. When I use WinDirStat to see what's on that drive, it shows that I have about 120gb of data on it (second image). Could someone kindly suggest what could be taking up 480gb of space—and why it is invisible to WinDirStat. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hard disk filled up

I use this free Program to see what is taking up the space.

System Restore also by default takes up 15% of the capacity of your Hard Drive space.

You can change the size of it:

    System Restore - disk space

You can clean up your Hard Drive using these two methods.

    "Delete files using Disk Cleanup"

    https://www.vistax64.com/threads/disk-cleanup.76073/

    Using the Free CCleaner Program:

    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Under NO condition use the Registry cleaning Option in CCleaner

And download, install, update and scan your System with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

And Norton Backup, if you are using Norton, can do strange things with filling up Hard Drive space.

    Cheers.

p.s. I suggest that you read this before you delete anything:
