Windows 10: MPR.dll error

Hi all

So a few days ago I started getting an error message:

program.exe - Bad Image

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MPR.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Error status is 0cx000012f.

It advises reinstalling the program, or contacting the vendor, but I have no idea what program produces this file in the first place.

So far affected programs include Paint, where it refuses to open a new file; Photo viewer refuses to open images. There may be more.

After searching online, it seems MPR.dll is used by Windows 10 in some capacity. I have installed the recent updates to see if it fixes it, but it doesn't.

So far I have attempted:

Downloading Media Creation Tool or whatever it's called, but it decided not to download it.

Running sfc/ scannow but it gets to 34% and refuses to work.

I have tried running this scan in Safe Mode but that didn't work either.

DCIM...Restorehealth got to about 6% and failed.

DCIM...Scanhealth - I think it's called that - did the same.

Command "Chkdsk" took about four hours to complete, and it did complete, but this did not repair the issues.

I tried doing a system restore but that failed too.

I've probably tried other stuff but I don't even know what now.

At this point I'm just spinning my wheels. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

D3dx9_30.dll Not Found error in Ashes Cricket 2009

Important Note: Do not, under any circumstances, download the d3dx9_30.dll DLL file individually from any "DLL download site." There are a number of different reasons that downloading DLLs from these sites are never a good idea.

Note: If you've already downloaded d3dx9_30.dll from one of those DLL download sites, remove it from wherever you put it and continue with the following steps.

1. Restart your computer if you haven't yet done so.

The d3dx9_30.dll error might be a fluke or one-time issue and a simple restart could clear it up completely. It's unlikely this will fix the problem, but restarting is always a good first troubleshooting step.

2. Install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX 9. Chances are, upgrading to the latest version of DirectX 9 will fix the d3dx9_30.dll not found error.

Note: Microsoft often releases updates to DirectX 9 without updating the version number or letter so be sure to install the latest release even if your version is technically the same.

Note: Are you a Windows Vista user with DirectX 10? Your game or program may still need DirectX 9 files to run properly so give the installation a try. Don't worry, both versions of DirectX can be run side by side in Windows Vista.

3. Assuming the latest DirectX version from Microsoft doesn't fix the d3dx9_30.dll error you're receiving, look for a DirectX installation program on your game or application CD or DVD. Usually, if a game or other program utilizes DirectX, the software developers will include a copy of DirectX on the installation disc.

Sometimes, though not often, the DirectX version included on the disc is a better fit for the program than the latest version available online.

4. Uninstall the game or software program and then reinstall it again. Something may have happened to the files in the program that work with d3dx9_30.dll and a reinstall could do the trick.

5. Restore the d3dx9_30.dll file from the DirectX 9 software package. If the above troubleshooting steps haven't worked to solve your d3dx9_30.dll error, try extracting the d3dx9_30.dll individually from the DirectX 9 package.

6. Update the drivers for your video card. While it's not the most common solution, in some situations updating the drivers for the video card in your computer could correct this DirectX issue.

DLL Missing

I actually posted the link for the "list of troubleshooting steps to resolve your boost_threads.dll problems" which is located half way down the page. I did not mean to promote any downloads.

The problem is, that the required DLL is not actually even listed there.
There are just dozens of download adware links from the top to the bottom.

where is a certain mpr-file?

VCL media player plays an mpr-file I cannot find on my PC.

"C:\>dir 09*.mpr /s" says file not found ("Datei nicht gefunden").
