Windows 10: MS Defender updates from Windows Update fail, other Updates successful

MS Defender updates from Windows Update in settings fail, other Updates successful, but MS Defender from Control panel can update the same definition updates without problems (why, oh, why? can't I just select and copy from settings? *Sad)











Over this time, I need to fix insider builds, but have a problem:



SFC and Dism component store health fix report no problems

Any Ideas?

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3135173). Keeps looping though failing and rolling back

I am getting the same update error daily on my Win 10 Pro desktop system. My laptop updated fine and it uses Bit Defender 2016 -- go figure. The desktop was just fresh installed 10 days ago and has no other antivirus/firewall installed except for the one
built into Windows. I tried downloading the update from the MS catalog which said it was successful but under update history it showed failed again and tried downloading the update again. I found on another web site to try running troubleshoot which did find
a problem and said it was fixed yet the problem continues.

This is really frustrating having updates forced on us by MS and then no help fixing problems when they arise or even some clue as to why it is failing.

 

Is anyone having problems with KB4043961?

Computer will not update it. Several attempts at downloading installing and restart have failed. I tried update troubleshooter with fixes. Still is not successful. Windows 10 Home with 64 bit system New version 1709 as of 10-17-2017 from 1703. All other
updates today were successful though. Just this one (KB4043961) is a problem. Would like HELP. I have Windows Defender on and also another AV (Trend Micro) on. Never had this trouble before.

 

I seen your pic - it seems like MS wants us out of preview - no advanced options either..
Looks like we get to keep 10240 - just forget a clean re-installation of it - Key is blocked

 

But it is activated, on 19 July, when the activation servers were meant to be down. I had intended to replace my original 10240 upgrade on 15th july, which is excruciatingly slow to start, but otherwise behaves perfectly, and the insider account works fine. But because updates are flaky here, I can't trust it.
