Windows 10: MS Edge - All downloaded files "contain a virus and were deleted". Google Chrome error when...

I'm currently experiencing a problem when trying to download or save any files in Windows 10 from either Edge or Chrome. When trying to download a file in edge, I get the error "xxxx.pdf contains a virus and was deleted" - this happens for all files, regardless of source. When trying to save a file using Google Chrome, I get the error message "virus scan failed" and subsequently I can't save the file. I've completely removed and reinstalled chrome, I've done an offline scan in Windows Defender, checked various security settings, but I'm a little stumped with this one. Any ideas?

Not able to download Google Chrome from Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer

Hi,

I uninstalled google chrome due to various reasons and tried installing it again through Edge or Internet Explorer. But every time I try to install it says file contained virus and it delete's it.

So is there any other way I can install Google Chrome. Please Help me.

I suggest you to uninstall the application and download the setup files or install directly from Internet explorer by following the steps below:

• Open Internet explorer and type ‘www.google.com’ in the address bar.
• To will get a notification on the right side of the browser to download and install Google Chrome.
• Click on the notification and follow the prompts to download and install the Google Chrome application.

"Download contained a virus and was deleted" problem Windows 10

I bought a brand-new PC laptop eight months ago. It's running Windows 10, and I install Windows updates as soon as they become available.

The only browser on the machine is Microsoft Edge.

I am also running the latest version of McAfee Antivirus Plus, which I installed as soon as I purchased the machine.

One month ago, as I attempted to install Google Chrome, I was presented with an error message:

"ChromeSetup.exe contained a virus and was deleted."

It does this for EVERYTHING - all trusted applications; Chrome, Zoom, Firefox, etc.
"[program name]Setup.exe contained a virus and was deleted."

Someone suggested running "Malwarebytes," but, like I said, it will download and install NOTHING.

I've uninstalled McAfee, reverting to Windows Defender, adjusted firewall settings, even ensured that ALL of my browser and security settings are IDENTICAL to those on my other PC (which is running perfectly), but the same problem occurs.

I have also re-booted in Safe Mode with networking, and get the exact same error.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
