Windows 10: MS Edge does not add events to my Windows 10 Calendar

I am using the free Mail app and free Calendar app that came with Windows 10 on my HP laptop.


Sometimes I receive emails from trusted sources that have embedded url links to add an event to my calendar.


When click such a link to add an event to my calendar, it opens in Edge and gives me choice to "Open" or "Save".


If I click "Open", then Edge tries to open an Outlook Calendar app, not the free Calendar App. Since I don't own Outlook or subscribe to Office 365, it finds no valid account and the Outlook app is frozen.


How can I change the settings so that when I click "Open" in Edge it will use the free Calendar app instead of Outlook?


Note: If I click "Save" I can save the file then use "Open With" in file explorer to select Calendar and it gets added to my free Calendar app correctly; however I don't want to have to follow this extra manual step that could lead to errors.

If your Google calendar can't be synced with the Windows Calendar app, then follow the below Microsoft article.

If the issue persists then, I suggest you to uninstall the apps which came inbuilt with Windows 10 using Windows PowerShell and reinstall using Windows Store. Follow the below steps.

• 
  Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell in
  the search bar.
  
• 
  Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
  
• 
  Enter the below command to reinstall the Mail and Calendar app.
  

get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage


After performing the above steps, install the Mail and Calendar app form the Windows Store.

Microsoft Launcher glance calendar does not display linked MS Exchange calender events

Hi All,

I finally (reluctantly, okay bitterly) made the switch from Windows Mobile to Android this week, using Microsoft Launcher, and have encountered a problem with the glance screen calendar. I have a problem with glance calendar not showing events from my work
calendar. Here are the specifics:

• The launcher glance calendar is linked to both my personal Outlook and work (MS Exchange) calendars, with both calendars toggled to active
• Events from my personal Outlook calendar successfully display on the glance calendar, but those from my work Exchange calendar do not
• New events that are created from with the glance calendar do successfully POST to BOTH calendars, but again only the one posted to my personal Outlook calendar then display
• IT at work cannot find any problem and suggested I post to MS, especially since the problem appears to be entirely internal to MS services
• Google Pixel 3a running Android 9.0
• Rebooting the phone has not solved the issue
• Wiping the MS Launcher data and trying again has not solved the issue

Any ideas for help?

Windows 10 Mail & Calendar Event details

I like to inform you that; while adding an event in your calendar, you will have the following options/details to add.

• 
  Event name, location, and start and end times.
  
• 
  Reminder and free/busy status (how the time should appear on your calendar).
  
• 
  The Calendar where the event should appear (if you have more than one account).
  
• 
  The description or agenda for the event.
  
• 
  Choose Private if you don't want others to see event details.
  

If any of the above mentioned details are missing, then there might be an issue with the Calendar app. I suggest you to perform Windows app troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Type troubleshooting in the
  Search area on the taskbar and hit Enter.
  
• 
  Click on View all on the left panel of the Troubleshooting Windows.
  
• 
  Select Windows store Apps.
  
• 
  Follow the on screen instruction.
