Windows 10: MS Edge shuts down immediately after opening

Hi,
Upgraded from 8.1 to Win 10 ok and all worked ok for a few days.
Tried Edge and was quite impressed with speed and performance until a few days later it stopped working.
When you open Edge the program starts but then immediately shuts down. Chrome and IE are both ok.
Tried the usual options of scanning all files etc and did not report any errors.
In safe mode when you try to open Edge it reports it cant be opened using the default administrator log on or similar.
Using Win 10 home. Other PC on Win 10 Pro is ok.
Any ideas?

Microsoft Edge web notes shuts computer down

When I try clicking on the web notes icon on web toolbar in MS Edge, my computer immediately shuts down - no crash - no warning, just shuts down. When I restart computer, the browser and email and other apps say they were shut down unexpectedly. This was
repeatable.

The category for MS Edge does not exist on this forum, so I chose Explorer 11 as category being closest. But the problem is happening in Edge!

I never should have installed those last updates. Now MS Edge is broken, shuts down just a few seconds after I open it. So does Google Chrome, but not Pale Moon or Firefox.

 

I had the exact same experience with Edge: worked fine at first (I was not especially impressed initially--Firefox Developers Edition seemed far faster and was infinitely more customizable), but before I could continue my evaluation, Edge stopped working altogether. I believe that it stopped working when I did a system restore back almost to the very beginning, immediately before I installed Classic Shell--the restore was to correct the loss of tray "pop-ups" so that I could not switch wifi connections; the restore did correct that problem but left me without Edge or Cortana. I have since got Cortana (partially) back, but not Edge (Cortana does not respond to voice, except for the initial "Hey Cortana"; in contrast, Google Now works fine with voice commands via Chrome Canary).

Any help with restoring Edge would be much appreciated.

Logged in to MS help page last night and went on the chat line where i explained the fault with Edge to the technician.
I explained i had done various scans for file corruption but problem still remained.
I also told them that with a new user account there were no problems with Edge.
The technician then logged in to my pc and moved the files from my original user profile( docs and settings) to the new one.
She then deleted the original user and the new one then became my main log in. Same email address and user name and all then worked ok. This operation in total took about 2 hours so credit to MS providing this service for free.
She left the original account settings on the desktop so i could delete them later when i was happy all ok.
Edge now fine. Had a few minor issues with MS Outlook but soon resolved and dropbox.
Tested again this morning and all ok but am reluctant to make any changes to Edge settings at the moment as worried it may go wrong again.
Best solution though is to call MS using chat. Answered within 2 minutes. Prior to that create a new user account in settings and log on with that account to confirm Edge ok.
Explain the issue to MS telling that it only happens with your original account and is ok on the new one, assuming that is the case.
