Windows 10: MS family safety is not showing activity or enforcing screen or app time limits for Win 11 PC.

We have had MS family safety set up for some years with good effect. A new Pc win 11 PC was added and appeared to work however in recent months we notice the app and screen limits have not been working. when attempting to review the activity i notice the many hours spent online each / every day are not shown. I have confirmed that my child is logging on with the same account. I have done forced a re verification a few times which has fixed the issues but only for a few day then it re occurs. Help and direction please!

How to get all child devices connected to family safety and screen time limits working correctly?

I have a two fold question. Both of my boys have their own xbox and gaming computer. I can see each xbox and each computer in family safety. However, family safety is not tracking or controlling the screen time of every device.

Child 1: screen time shows his activity on the xbox and computer. I have screen time limits for each device from 3-8pm however the devices do not get blocked at 8pm - screen time limits do not work on either device. The computer is an ASUS TUF gaming A15, windows 11; xbox is Xbox One S.

Child 2: family safety is only showing his screen time activity on his xbox, and the xbox is responsive to the screen time limits which means it will shut off at 8pm and he will have to ask for more time. However, family safety is not showing his activity on his computer and screentime is not limited, which means he has untimed and complete access to the computer at all times. Computer: ASUS TUF Gaming A15, windows 11; xbox = xbox one.

Me: I control the family safety through the family safety app on my iphone, or using the family safety app on my windows 10 computer.

I have personally updated and restarted every device that is involved - theirs and mine.

I have removed and re-added each child to family safety a few times. This only seems to complicate the problem or I end up with a different problem. We have had both kids in family safety on the xbox one and older computers and never had issues with screen time reporting or screen time limits working incorrectly.

How do we fix this problem so that all devices are connected to family safety and screen time limits are working correctly?

On the computer - is it possible that Norton or having your own VPN is interfering with the microsoft family safety screen time reporting function?

 

Family Safety is not updating new downloaded apps or showing screen time used,

Thank you for the update First, make sure that the accounts you have set up for your sons have the appropriate permissions to be monitored by Family Safety. You can check this by going to the "Family & other users" section of the Settings app and clicking on the account you want to monitor. Make sure that "Child" is selected as the account type and that the "Use one account for all Microsoft services" option is turned on.

Next, check to see if the apps your sons have downloaded are being recognized by Family Safety. You can do this by going to the Family Safety website and signing in with your Microsoft account. From there, click on the "Activity reporting" tab and check to see if the new apps are listed under "Recent activity." If they are not, you may need to wait a few hours for Family Safety to recognize the new apps.

If the new apps are still not being recognized, you can try manually adding them to the list of apps that can be monitored by Family Safety. To do this, go to the "App & games limits" section of the Family Safety website and click on "Add an app." Enter the name of the app you want to monitor and select it from the list that appears.

As for the issue with screen time not being recorded, this could be due to a variety of reasons. One possibility is that the screen time feature is not turned on for the accounts you are monitoring. You can check this by going to the "Screen time" section of the Family Safety website and making sure that "Screen time for this device is on" is turned on.

If screen time is already turned on, try signing out of the Microsoft account on your sons' laptops and signing back in. This may trigger Family Safety to start recording screen time again.

If the above fail to fix the issue

Check the privacy settings: Ensure that the privacy settings for the accounts you are monitoring allow for screen time and app usage data to be collected. To do this, go to Settings > Privacy > Activity history and ensure that the "Let Windows collect my activities from this PC" option is turned on.

Update your device drivers: Ensure that your device drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can cause issues with screen time and app usage tracking. You can check for updates in the Device Manager.

Disable and re-enable Family Safety: Try disabling Family Safety for a few minutes and then re-enable it. To do this, go to the Family Safety website and click on the "Turn off activity reporting" button. Wait a few minutes, then turn it back on again.
