Windows 10: ms-gamingoverlay popups when playing a game

System Windows 11 Pro newly installed yesterday version 24H2Iam from germany so the text is in german. It basically says I cant open the ms-gamingoverlay link and should search an app to open it in the microsoft store.MS-gamingoverlay shows up and instantly stops the game and crashs it. Originally I didnt have gamebar, after the crashes tried to deinstall it to make sure I really dont have it and used some commands to disable the popup.Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay Remove-AppxPackagereg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR /

I was able to download and extract the files. I did run them as Administrator, but did not see the start up item. It really only occurs when I load a game that uses the ms-gamingoverlay.

MY WIN 10 KEEPS ASKING ME YOULL NEED A NEW APP TO OPEN THIS MS-GAMINGOVERLAY

 

What is ms-gamingoverlay?

I am not a gamer. I play not much, and when I play something, it's only some simulation games (I do not like killing, not even virtual killing *Wink). Past few years, only games I have played are Tropico 5 and 6, Sim City, Cities - Skylines, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and Cities XXL.

Whatever game I start, I will always get this:





I always just wait the game to start, at which point that prompt disappears.

My question is, what is that? Do I need it?

I suspect that it might be the XBox app in Windows, which I do not have, nor do I want it. I always customize my Windows deployment images, removing all but essential Store apps. XBox app is always one of the first I remove.

Can anyone confirm that the notification I get means I should reinstall XBox app? If so, do I gain something if I install it, or can I continue playing without it?
