MS Office 2013 update...

Moderator(s), please move this topic to the correct forum, thanks...

I have two Windows 10 Professional, 64-bits (1709) with the latest updates, both systems have MS Office 2013 Professional. On one of the systems, MS Office does not update, while the other does. After researching the issue, couple of things that I've learned.

Depending on the type of installation of the Office, there are different ways the updates managed. One type of installation is via the .msi file. In this case, the click-to-run update option is not available in "File\Office Account" in any applications, only the "About Outlook" icon active:

Click on the "About" icon, displays the current version of Office:

The version number is in the first line in the image and yes, this installation has the latest version of Office 2013.

The other option for installing Office 2013 via the .exe file, that evidently has taken place on the other PC. Clicking on "About Outlook" icon shows this:

The current version information is displayed next to the update option icon and verified via clicking on the "About" icon:

The "Update Options" drop down menu does not have the "Update Now" option and it does not update automatically. Yes, Windows Update is set for updating other Microsoft products.

The Office version of 15.0.4433.1508 is pre-SP1 for Office. After downloading Office 2013 SP1 and run it as admin, it gives me an error about "This update is not applicable to your version...", or something similar. While I know that MS Office 2013 is 64-bits, I tried the 32-bit SP1, but resulted in the same error message.

The two systems with Office 2013 have different license keys for MS Office 2013.

Is there a way to repair Office 2013 updates without reinstalling it? Would getting a new licenses key alleviate the update issues?

    TIA...

    :)

  3. Windows 10 not activated

Problem started with Office 2013 repeatedly crashing about six months ago after Windows update. MS support actions restarted the app several times, the last time issuing a new product #. Latest Office 2013 crash resulted in MS support stating that Windows
10 is not activated. Both Office 2013 and Windows were originally preloaded on computer by manufacturer. Windows was updated to 10 about a year ago. PC is about 4 years old. MS support referred to manufacturer for Windows product key, their site states product
key in in computer. All programs worked until Office problems began, now today Windows is not activated. Any suggestions?

The Office 2013 Professional, 64-bit, click-to-run installation update is tricky in a sense. While it does not happen for everyone, at times the click-to-run update portion of the Office does not install correctly. In which case, like mine, the update won't work, regardless what the update settings are in Office and Windows.

Neither off or online repair, accessible via "Control Panel\Uninstall a program select MS Office and click on "Change", fixed the update issue. Command line is the best option to force the update, in my case for the x64-installation, this command updated the click-to-run Office 2013 Professional 64-bit:

    Code: %Program Files%\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64>OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user displaylevel=true
Forcing the update in the click-to-run Office 2013 Professional 32-bit installation:

    Code: %Program Files%\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86>OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user displaylevel=true
In my case, the command updated to the latest version (15.0.4997.1000) and restored the "Update Now" option in the "Product Information" window:

    MS Office 2013 update...

Hi everyone, I've just joined this site so I can share and build on the information provided above, which combined with information I gleamed from elsewhere, has fixed my "Office 2013 Automatic Update Failure" problem:

Situation: MS Office Pro 2013 Version 15.0.4433.1508 fails to update due to missing "Update Now" selector, which should be located at the top of the drop down list accessible under any of the Office programs by selecting "File > Account > Office Updates > Update Options (only the "Disable Updates", "View Updates" and "About Updates" selectors are visible in the version I installed from an original disk purchased from MS)

In my case, I had a major Windows 10 OS failure and had to reinstall Windows 10 and Office 2013 on my PC. I used my original MS Office Pro Plus 2013 disk, which I had previously purchased from MS online in addition to the product key.

I have subsequently found my updates were not working and in the process of investigating this issue, came across the following VERY HELPFUL post, which enabled me to prove the image on the disk I purchased from MS is faulty, and evidently was a waste of money.

…..."Although the production fault with ISO images on disks is identified in the following extract from the post in the URL at the bottom of the page, the issue associated with version 15.0.4433.1508 installed from Disk is known to MS, but the solution is not evident on a MS site.

The fact of the matter, the cause of the problem is simple. DO NOT burn to a disc. DO NOT make an ISO and DO NOT install the software from either or the software just won't update. Who is at fault here, and who is to blame...?

    The Bottom Line...

Download Office 2013 directly from your account.

Install Office 2013 directly from your PC.

You don't need a licence key for Office 2013 when downloaded directly.

Once the installation has completed, it will update Office 2013.

When the installation has completed, check the build.

The default (sic – corrupt) build is 15.0.4443.1508 if this N# is higher it has been updated.…….”

    · Office 2013 not updating

In my case, I didn't uninstall office, I just reinstalled office over the top of the original install, using a full MS Office Pro 2013 download from "My Account" at https://account.microsoft.com

Problem fixed for me, Office version updated to 15.0.5041.1001, but unfortunately the fault with the ISO image, and the easy fix is not openly disclosed by MS.

Why? I suspect they are trying to hide their past mistakes and in the process trying to stop customers claiming refunds on faulty disks they have sold.
