MS Paint - default 'Save As" location

    Hello,

I read through a very old post that had the same issue, but no solution.

We use Paint a lot for work. We take photos, transfer them to the server folder location we need them. Then open them in paint to edit. Go to Save-As and, being so used to the way it worked before, just change the name and save. Then of course we realize that it saved to the wrong folder. So then I need to open recent items, find the path it actually saved to, navigate to there, cut the photo, then navigate to where it should have saved and paste it.

Why did they change the way Paint worked? It is such a convenient little app for minor edits but now it wastes so much time navigating between servers and folders just to save a file when I already have the path known by opening the original file.

My Win10 is a fresh, full install. I use the Office365 suite. It is not a buggy install, several Win10 and Office365 suites in the office and all do this.

    :)

  2. Paint cannot save this file

I'm saving every file in my Download folder. The name I'm using is Paint's default "Untitled". So yeah, saving in the same location with the same exact filename works perfectly well after rebooting.

  3. Default app not working

I have set my default app/program for jpg files to Paint however, when I select a link in Excel to a picture with the .jpg file extension Internet Explorer keeps coming up rather than MS Paint. Is the "Paint" icon in Windows 10 actually MS Paint? I do
    have MS Paint pinned.

MS Paint - default 'Save As" location

I find if I open a file at a new location (File, Open), then file, save as will save at that location. (New as in different to the last location a file was saved to).

If I rt click the file, open with Paint, then File, Save As, saves to the last location a file was saved.

If I close Paint, when I launch it again, then the Save As location remains the same as the last one used.

    That seems ok to me.

  5. Yeah, I often use "open with". Doing it that way, "save as" saves to the "last" location I saved to, not to where the file I open is. Will have to try opening paint first, then file open, to see what happens. It's caught me out a few times wondering where my photo was saved too? I just do another save as, and note the path to find my lost file. It is a bit annoying.
