MS Photos app - album - file names

To collect my best photos of the month, on my PC Windows 10, I use the Photos app, page through the photos, and add good ones to a new "album".I then want to copy the actual .jpeg or .heic files of the selected photos, a to make a backup, and b to add them to my PC wallpaper folder. How can I do this?

    :)

    Hi Rena,

Conflicts with the photos app settings is one of the possible reasons why you are having issues naming an album. For us to assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Which version and OS build number of Windows 10 is currently installed? To check, press the Windows key, type winver, and press the Enter key.
    • Do you have a third-party security software installed?

Meanwhile, I would suggest that you try running the Windows app troubleshooter and check if you will still encounter
the same issue in renaming an album in the Photos app.

Update us with the results so we can further assist you.

Why did the photos app auto-create a random photo album?

The automatic album creation is a new feature:

(Source: Microsoft documentation.) It didn't add all the photos taken on that date because it thought some were too similar to others:

Date and time are definitely taken into account when grouping the photos; a CNET article suggests there might be more complex logic too:

The location would be determined from information embedded in the picture by the device that took it.

Concerning the uninvited appearance of the app: That seems to be a bug experienced by many people with the management of Universal app processes. For some, it's caused by a certain version of DisplayFusion.

    Hi,

The Photos app is the default photo viewer for Windows 10. It gathers photos from all your devices and puts them in one place using OneDrive. If you're using the Photos app, the steps on how to name or rename an album are provided in this
article: How to use albums in the Photos app.

Should you need further assistance or have other concerns, feel free to share your thoughts with us.
