Windows 10: MS Photos is skipping to the next photo without me clicking on anything

if i click to open a photo, the photo will stay on the screen for about five seconds before skipping to another photo automatically

Multiple Photos

We suggest that you follow the steps below to delete the photo through Photos app:

• If you’re looking at your list of photos in Photos app, select the photos by clicking on checkbox on the photos you want to delete. Click
  Delete icon at the bottom right corner to delete.
• If you open a photo, Tap or press Delete
  key from keyboard.

Windows Photos Viewer is an oddity; as I suggested, find a free downloadable image viewer you like, and use that.

I use a program in building my family tree- it lets me use an external viewer- simply whatever is set as default. Here you can see it displays the image in Photoviewer. I imagine Vuescanner requires you to specify the path literally.
