  1. MS Safety Scanner - how is this odd result possible?

Yesterday I did a full system scan using the Malicious Software Removal tool. It ran all night but at the 35% complete point it had found 132 infected files. Below is the log file of this scan. I am not trusting of this odd result and hope someone can explain it to me. I am running Win 10 1909 Build 18363.1556 which I am stuck in since Windows Update will not run and recovery and install media I made will not run either.Microsoft Safety Scanner v1.411, build 1.411.199.0 Started On Fri May 17 18:28:24 2024 engine: 1.1.24040.1 Signatures: 1.411.199.0 MpGear: 1

  3. safety scanner ON THE WEB

    Hello @walleyeblugill,
MS Safety Scanner saves a .log file of everything it does here %SystemRoot%\debug\msert.log. You can open it in Notepad or NotePad++. I hope this helps..

    Microsoft Safety Scanner Strange Results

I ran Microsoft Safety Scanner's full scan on my Windows 10 PC. It ran for over seven days. It scanned over 25,000,000 files! (Didn't know there were that many on my machine.) While it was running it identified 42 infected files. However, when it finally finished the results screen said "no viruses, spyware, and other potentially unwanted software were detected." What???

    Several issues here:

    1. Most importantly, how is it possible that files were flagged as infected while the app was running but none were reportedly detected when the app finished?
    2. The app ran for over seven days. During that time, it gave no opportunity to get any information on those files or to do something with them. There could have been a power outage at any time and the expended scanning work could have been lost and would have had to be redone. Potentially extremely costly and frustrating. Atrocious software design from Microsoft.
Microsoft Safety Scanner is poorly designed, faulty, and although it's free, it's enormously costly in terms of time and electricity spent. A complete waste of time.
