Windows 10: MS Security Essentials

Discus and support MS Security Essentials in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; WInX comes with Defender, but I prefer Security Essentials. 2. Uninstall MS Security Essential in Win10

MSE has been replaced by Windows Defender in Windows 10 as I have been told by the MSE installer itself when I tried to run it. MSE disappeared from my computer too! Now Defender is supposed to run in its place, but I never SEE IT running. Don't know how
    to start it either!

  3. Cannot uninstall MS Security Essentials

I had MS Security Essentials when in Windows 7.

Now that I have upgraded to Windows 10, I'm trying to uninstall MS Security Essentials but couldn't.

The reason I want to do it is the Windows Defender that comes with Windows 10 seems to provided added protection for rootkits and bootkits.

In my computer, Windows Defended has been turned off (automatically?), and I can't uninstall MS Security Essentials (I get a message saying "You don't need to install MS Security Essentials" when trying to uninstall it, which is weird because I'm trying
to uninstall, not install it). I also cannot turn Windows Defender on because all I get is a message saying "This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer", without the ability to go any further.

MS Security Essentials is running fine and seems to have a better User Interface (Extra "Settings tab" not found in Windows Defender, that allows you to set a scheduled scan, automatically check for definition files etc...). I know this because I just bought
a brand new computer with Windows 10 that only has Windows Defender on it.

What can (or should) I do?

    Thanks

    MS Security Essentials

    Hello Mayagrafix,

Starting with Windows 8, Windows Defender has been replaced with a renamed MSE now. It's the same with a Windows Defender shell.

You will not be able to install MSE in Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 because of this.

Windows Defender is virtually the same product. I'm curious as to what aspect you prefer about MSE.

    Hi there

the INTERFACE / UI may look the same but it's a different product --Windows Defender was not a good name as it confuses people with the more or less useless offering on W7 of the same name. MSE was the Pre-cursor / development model for the new Windows defender. MSE ran as a separate application on top of the OS but Windows defender is built in as a system process right into the kernel and in theory should be able to do a better job.

In any case the best protection as always is YOU the USER when using the Internet.

    Cheers

The user isn't always the best defence against internet nasties. I'd imagine a lot of older people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I've had to rescue several older people in my neighbourhood from their actions. So in these situations multi layered security is the answer.

    MS Security Essentials

I am using Avast Internet Security and it does a fine job on 7 and 10.
