  2. setting up microphone for speech recognition

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are trying to setup speech recognition on the PC.
In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
      winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • When you say that “the box is grey and unresponsive”, where you are seeing this option?
    • Are you able to connect the microphone to the PC? (Does it show in Device Manager)

Meanwhile we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to setup the microphone.

Steps to set up a microphone: Before you set up Speech Recognition, make sure you've plugged the microphone into your PC so the following steps work.

    1. Press Windows + Q or click on the Windows Search.
    2. Enter Set up a microphone in the search box, and then tap or click
      Set up a microphone.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    4. Once you are able to setup the microphone and then check if it’s working.

  3. MS LifeChat LX 3000 microphone not working

    Hi,

It can be a faulty driver that is causing your microphone not to work. We suggest that you run the hardware troubleshooter. Troubleshooters can find and fix many common problems for you. See steps below:

    • On the Search bar, type Troubleshoot.
    • Click on Troubleshoot.
    • Select Hardware and Devices then click on Run the troubleshooter.

Also make sure that the microphone in not disabled and set as default. Follow the steps below:

    • Right-click on the volume icon and select Recording devices.
    • Right-click on the Microphone, then select Show disconnected devices and
      Show disabled devices.
    • Double click on the Microphone and under Device Usage:, select
      Use this device (enabled).
    • Also make sure that the Microphone is set as default.

If the issue still occurs, try uninstalling and reinstalling the headset driver.

Microphones not working and settings app crashing when i try to enter "microphone privacy settings"

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you are unable to use your Microphone. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    • Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?
    • Are you using an external Microphone or internal Microphone?
    • What is the make and model of the computer?

As you mentioned that the settings Windows crash when opening the Privacy settings, I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below:

    Method 1: Re-register Settings app

We can try re-registering the Settings app using PowerShell and see if that helps. Refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows + X key together and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. Accept the UAC prompts.
    3. Now type in the following command and hit Enter: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name windows.immersivecontrolpanel | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}
    4. Restart the PC.

    Method 2: New user account

If re-registering Settings app didn’t work, try in a new user account and see if the issue persists. Refer the steps from the article Create
a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
    .

    Method 3: DISM Command

I would also suggest you to try using DISM to fix the corrupted Windows system files on your PC. Refer the article Using
