  1. MS Windows October 2020 - Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.572] issues

    Hello,

Greetings. I recently updated to this service pack from Windows. Now I have system performance issues i.e. my HD is thrashing, boot time is a lot longer and my personalization settings were wacked at the knees. For example to the desktop background no longer cyscles through subfolders, the color schemes are not the same, the taskbar is light gray vs. charcoal. My PC has been running for an hour and the HD I/O lamp is still pegged.

I've read numerous online posts and haven't found solutions worth attempting w/o fear of unknown consequences. I'm not the only one dealing with these issues. Will there be another Windows update on Tuesday 11/10/2020 to fix this October update? Or are there other steps I can take to uninstall and restore to the previous version of Windows?

Thank you in advance for posting replies. Take care and stay healthy!

    Sincerely,

    Dual Soliloquy

PS. To any MS Employees reading this post - as a SW developer I'm leaning heavily toward running a Linux desktop...

  2. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Microsoft Gives Windows 10 a Major Performance Boost

I concur, Windows 10 so far is as stable, as fast, lean, and 98% as user friendly to me as windows 7, which is and has been a pinnacle for how good an operating system can be, but it too had its weaknesses.

Vista was a new attempt, and the hardware manufacturers as well as MS are to blame for a premature release of a get it to market and fix it later attitude.
