    MS Word Files No Longer Directly Associated With Word Software


    I've had MS 365 for two years. As of 6 weeks ago, all of my Word files in file manager now have a notepad icon next to them. When I click on them in file manager, unreadable characters open in a notepad document. All Word files affected with this issue have the docx extension. As a workaround, I have been right clicking on a filename then selecting open with Word. How do I get these files to be associated with Word in the file manager and to automatically open in Word when I click on them?

    I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

    could you check settingcontent-ms my list has word associated with that in the protocol list

    also .dochtml and .docxml so three that do NOT appear on your list above
