Windows 10: msconfig / system configuration is showing Windows 8.1 under boot

I can't make it Windows 10

Windows 10 Upgrade from 8.1 left boot pointing to C:windows 8.1

I've run a clean boot, without correcting the problem.

It is in the MSConfig dialog box under the "Boot" tab that I noticed that 8.1 is my referenced OS. That's the genesis of my basic question.
Why does my W10 System Configuration / boot tab refer to a Windows 8.1 OS? And is it possible this is the root cause of my auto update issue?

Strange PC Problem/Will Only Boot in Safe Mode.

Type in "Search the web and Windows" on your taskbar "msconfig" and it should open system configuration. Go under boot and make sure you uncheck safe mode if it is checked.

 

Sorry that I cannot bring a solution to this topic, but I'd like to say I have the exact same issue here (after an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10).

Wonder why "Windows 8.1" was still there after the upgrade to Windows 10. I don't even have a dual boot. What I do have is a Factory Recovery Partition (my Samsung laptop came originally with Windows 8, not 8.1).

 

Glad it could help. I suppose a quirk with the upgrade.

 

This may have been a deliberate decision. This is a user preferences setting and the OS upgrade does not change it because the user may not wish it changed.

 

Strange one that like my system shows W10, what's going on some systems show windows 10 some 8 some 7, it's crazy this like, this is probably the problem why people can't get back into their computer after upgrade.
