Windows 10: .msi files not downloading

whenever i try to install a msi file it keeps showing select an app to open the msi file. it is however not downloading. I am using windows 11

Downloaded files disappear


When you download a file through any browser, there's an option somewhere to 'Open Containing Folder.'

In Windows, to find a file you have downloaded...

1. Open your personal folder by clicking the Start button and then clicking your user name at the top of the Start menu's right pane.
   
2. Double-click one of the following folders:
   
   • Downloads
     
   • Documents
     
   • Pictures
     
   • Videos
     
   • Music

If you do not see the file you are looking for, but know its file name, you can search for it by following these steps:
To search for a file you have downloaded...

1. Click the Start button
   
2. Type all or part of the file name into the Search box.
   The file you are looking for will appear in the list of results.

 

Uninstalling JRE but .msi is missing

Ok, now I got it:

1. Downloaded and started jre-8u101-windows-i586.exe
   
2. The Install failed in the second step with an error code, but as long as the installer is still open I could find a jre1.8.0_101.msi where the uninstall process searches for jre1.8.0_101full.msi (notice the difference in name)
   
3. Copied the file to a different directory and renamed it jre1.8.0_101full.msi
   
4. Closed the installer (directory and jre1.8.0_101.msi get deleted)
   
5. Started the uninstall process and changed the path to my new directory.

I cannot download MSI files

When i try to download and MSI file it says "Failed to execute MSI package" and "Failed to install MSI package."
