Windows 10: MSI installer not running from Downloads folder

Hello,

I am a developer at Lacuna Software and we are experiencing installation issues on one of our softwares with 1,500,000+ users:

• MSI installer does NOT run from the Downloads folder with double click
• MSI installer does NOT run from CMD> msiexec /i "C:\Users\YourUserName\Downloads\WebPkiSetup_en-US.msi"

Workaround we found:

• MSI installer does run if you move it to any other folder e.g. Documents
• MSI installer does run from CMD on Downloads folder just by adding the log parameter: /L*V "<log file path>"

this last one is odd, looks like a quantum physics problem: trying to observe the log changes the experiment event.

Important Details:

1. Both app and installer are codesigned with trusted EV Code Singing certificate
2. Both app and installer are timestamped with trusted EV certificate
3. The app and installer are whitlelisted on main antivirus
4. The installer does not require admin privileges

Since this installing issues started to popup recently, the installer did not change thetimestamp shows it was signed on 2019-10-12 and it happens with some Windows 10 only not everyone,

we suspect that it has something to do with any recent update.

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.

Downloaded MSI BIOS Missing Installer

That was it @Dude!!!







I was able to boot into F11 boot override, and run the BIOS flash from my USB stick, now I an updated to AD0.




I have spent the last half hour re-setting my BIOS, found out my saved OC profiles are no good any more as they are for the prior BIOS version, so had to recreate and test them too.
Now I am up and running though, one funny thing, MSI Live Update 6 now finds the .AD0 BIOS as an update after I installed it. I think that piece of crap, will have to go. I can always check out MSI once a month, and the programs I wan installed, will tell me if there is an update anyhow when I check using "Info".

The above error can occur if the locally cached Windows Installer package (*.msi) file is damaged or corrupted.

To rectify the above, I suggest that you try the steps mentioned below and check if you are able to install the software successfully.

• Open the \Windows\Installer folder on your computer's hard disk.
• Right-click any file with an .msi extension.
• Click Properties on the shortcut menu. The
  Subject box on the Summary tab contains the name of the product that installed the .msi file.
• Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each .msi file in the \Installer folder, and delete the .msi file for the software that you are trying to install.
