Windows 10: MSI laptop HDD disk running at 100%

Hi people,I have a MSI gaming laptop on windows 11, for a while it has been running at 100 HDD disk no matter what I do. I have done a soft reset to wipe my computer of everything but my personal files which are all on the OneDrive anyway. So nothing is being stored on the device itself.I have wiped it, reset it, updated drivers and done countless of disk and antivirus scans. I've followed multiple guides and it still running at 100. I've tried everything I know of and it's performance is slow. I'm considering either replacing the HDD or adding a SSD but I don't want it to come to that.If anyo

Disk Usage at 100% with nothing running

My PC is running Windows 10 with the latest updates but has suddenly become unusable with disk usage staying at 100% even with nothing running and just the same processes listed in Task Manager as before the problems
started. I've tried a few suggestions found in online forums - disabling Windows Search and Superfetch, adjusting page file size, etc. but nothing has done the trick yet. I don't have any outside anti-virus software installed. I read about the potential MSI
issue but don't have IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers listed in the Device Manager. Finally, it seems to boot up normally and will have periods where the disk usage drops and it's usable but those moments are brief and it inevitably goes back up to 100% usage.

I've seen that article. and I am in fact not running that driver. I followed the steps and it does not appear in the list.

 

100% disk utilisation slowing laptop

Thank you for your assistance, I have had to type this in WORD and copy paste into the thread here due to all things through Chrome and Edge are so slow.

• Windows is always up to date with all updates.
  
• Norton Utilities is also up to date
  

• I have already done the following:
  
  • Tested HDD with HP Startup Menu and disk is 100% in order
    
  • Carried out SFC scan and corrupt files repaired
    
  • Did a DSIM restore health and no issues found-Disk utilisation is now generally below 50%
    
  • When using Chrome browser, to access this chat for example, its very slow with Disk utilisation at 10% or so but Memory at 55% with Chrome using most of it always.
    
  • So the problem is partially resolved except for when using Chrome
    
  • With Edge the memory goes up to 62% and HDD 100%
    
  • Did you suggested :Methods” 1, 2, 3, 5, 6
    
• I have not done a “clean boot” as it scares me at this stage.
  

It seems to be an issue between Chrome/Edge browsers as when I use Office 365’s Outlook, Word etc, the speed is now OK. Also the Disk utilisation seems to be generally acceptable but memory high that may be slowing the laptop down?

I have had issues with Teams simultaneously in that it’s so slow but with Zoom its normal, coincidence?
