    MsiExec.exe -Embedding - Undocumented function


    Good Morning! I was doing some troubleshooting and found MsiExec.exe using the "-Embedding" flag. Hitting "/?" in the command line yielded no valuable results. A quick internet search also failed me. What is the purpose of the "-Embedding" flag for MsiExec.exe? Example Use: "C:\Windows\syswow64\MsiExec.exe -Embedding {32bit Hexadecimal string}"Thank you!

    what does msiexec /unregister do

    In my post I already said I can still install the msi file after I used the msiexec /unregister command

    I never said anything about EXE file.

    So what does msiexec /unregister command do specifically? In other words if I do not use the command msiexec /Regserver to registry back. What will happen?

    I agree with Ed although not sure in-place upgrade can help. But it is simple to try it. In the case of msiexec problem persists:

    - install clean system
    - install some imaging software
    - make system image
    - install all your software one-by-one using the following steps
    -- install one program
    -- test if msixec can run
    -- if yes then make system image and continue with next program installation
    -- if no then you discovered the problematic program; restore the system from recent non-affected image.
