Outlook is committed to providing you the best experience wherever you access it. We are happy to share with you the NEW Outlook experience on mobile browsers. To use Outlook on a mobile browser, just launch the browser of your choice on your smartphone and type the URL outlook.office.com or outlook.com, once youâve signed in, youâll land in the new Outlook mobile web experience. You can also add a shortcut to your homescreen and launch Outlook with a tap.

We built this new experience with lots of new features, that enable you to connect, organize, and get things done.

Stay on top of your inbox

Now you can stay on top of the important things in your inbox. With the new Focused inbox setting, Outlook helps you sort your emails so you get to the important ones first. You can also identify the senders faster with avatars and quickly assess if you need to take an action on them. Swipe actions and bulk triaging your emails are also a lot quicker and easier, and donât worry if you accidentally move or delete an email because now you can also undo your actions. Now, itâs easier to stay in control of your inbox!

RSVP to your meetings from your inbox

We have re-defined the inbox to be a place where you can get things done on the go. So now you can respond to meetings straight from the message list. Events will now have an RSVP button for you to respond to them and youâll be able to check for conflicts too.

Search across Mail, Contacts, and Events

Have you ever struggled to find an email, document, or someoneâs email address? The new unified Search breaks down the silos across Mail, Contacts and Calendar. Regardless of where you start your search, you can see results across Outlook and take actions on them. Weâve also improved Search to give you better and faster results, and if youâre not really sure how to start your search our zero query suggestions will help you out!

The all new Agenda view and quick event creation

Outlook is where most people start their day, both to check messages and how their day looks like. To help with this, weâve built a new way of viewing your meetings and commitments with the Agenda view. The new Agenda view has a refined information architecture that makes it easier to quickly view or manage your calendar regardless of how packed it is. If you are having a slow-meeting day, you can now easily view events across days and when it is packed, you can quickly scroll to look for events on different days. This new view also highlights the meetings happening âNowâ and the Upcoming meetings so that you do not miss them.

Weâve made it easier to put down a reminder with the new quick event creation workflow. Just tap the plus icon on the top and in three clicks you have an event created. This is perfect for when you want to put down your meetings and appointments on the go!

Compliance and Security

Outlook on the mobile browser respects your organizationâs compliance and security policies, it supports major server and client-side policies like modern authentication, conditional access, session management, retention, eDiscovery and content search, auditing and reporting and a few more. We are working towards supporting classification, labelling and protection policies.

You can use conditional access policies to control how Outlook is accessed through a mobile browser.

Helping you work from where you are

We are making it easier to work and connect with your co-workers anywhere your phone has connectivity. You can add online meetings by default to all your meetings so everyone in your team feels included. You can also choose to end meetings a little early to give everyone a breather before the next one starts.

As some people and organizations move into a hybrid work setup, we will soon roll out workspace bookings so people can book individual spaces in an office building. Workspaces allows an admin to set an office space (floor, meeting room, desk, etc) and limit the time and number of people who can book it at the same time. Learn more about workspace booking here.

Outlook in a mobile browser as a Progressive Web App

Progressive Web Apps (PWA) are enhancing web applications and we are committed to delivering an awesome PWA experience through Outlook. As a PWA, Outlook will look and feel like a native app and bring you some of the rich functionality that native apps provide like notifications, seamless transitions, share targets for files and quick launch.

You can add Outlook to the home screen so you can launch it quickly the next time without going to the browser. Very soon you will also receive web push notifications so you can stay on top of your important emails and events. And with web share targets you can quickly share a file on your device through Outlook on a mobile browser.

Compose and reply to emails faster

Composing and replying to emails on a mobile device is not always the easiest task, but we are adding AI to your compose and reply experience to make it easier and better. With suggested replies, Outlook will intelligently suggest responses so you can reply in a couple of clicks! You can always edit the email before you send it, so click on that suggested reply and add the rest of your ideas. Suggested replies will also suggest to schedule a meeting if needed.

With text predictions, Outlook will help you type your emails faster so you save some effort on those thumbs when youâre on the go, and with the rich text editor weâll bring some of the formatting capabilities that you find on richer clients.

Outlook on your mobile browser is being upgraded

Not long ago we released an opt-in toggle for users to be able to try the new experience of Outlook in a mobile browser, while we are working to make this experience better we wanted to give you a heads-up of the features that are coming, and some that won’t be there anymore.

Following are the set of features not yet available in the new version of Outlook in a mobile browser.

Currently not supported (Coming soon)

Mail:

Add cloud attachments from first- and third-party providers

Add attachments from OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and other third-party cloud storage providers

Item view for incoming mails

Each message received will be considered as a new message list item. Currently we have support for conversation view for email threads.

Choose “from” address while sending an email message

Ability to switch between email addresses on the “from” line while sending email messages

Reply with meeting

Search suggestions

Show categories applied to messages

Display categories applied to messages in the list view and reading pane

Suggested replies

Calendar

Swipe between days in Day view

Calendar event help text

Tips on recurring event and event responses in event details page

Create events from day view

Tap on the day view to create events at a specific time

Option to propose new time

Attach files when creating an events

Ability to view Shared calendars

People

The following features will not be supported anymore in the new Outlook for mobile browsers.

No option to set message sensitivity & importance

Set sensitivity and importance to specific message sent

No voting buttons

Read receipts

No option to apply retention policies

No access to add-ins

No ability to view shared folders and shared mailbox in folder list

Calendar:

No Calendar search

set email reminder for events

No support for adding or searching for people’s calendars

No ability to add groups’ calendars

No option control from Settings which events from your email are automatically added to your calendar

People:

Contact & contact list filter

View contact and contact list separately. In the new Outlook this can be done from the menu option in People section.

No ability to search within folders

This update will make Outlook faster, with a better design, and help us deploy fixes and updates in less time for a more secure experience than before.

New enterprise information protection and deployment capabilities

We know that protecting confidential information is top of mind for our customers, so today we’re announcing new capabilities to help you secure sensitive information while making it easier to manage and deploy Outlook mobile. We’re committed to delivering best-in-class enterprise and security capabilities along with the ease of use and speed you love.

Easily apply sensitivity labels to emails

Customers will soon be able to classify and label Outlook mobile emails to help ensure that sensitive information is handled in compliance with your company policies. We are introducing Microsoft Information Protection native labeling in Outlook for iOS and Android to help enforce a common set of protection policies and actions across Microsoft 365 apps. For example, administrators could specify custom sensitivity labels such as “General” or “Company Confidential” with corresponding actions such as adding a footer to emails or encrypting emails, respectively. As a user, you will then be able to add a “Company Confidential” label to the email so that it can only be opened by recipients who are authorized to decrypt the message. Your administrator could also set up a policy to allow you to change a sensitivity email label if necessary but require a justification to do so for tracking and compliance purposes. Our goal is start rolling out this feature to commercial Outlook mobile customers by the end of the year, initially in preview.

New capabilities to simplify deployment and management of Outlook mobile

To enable organizations to get their employees quickly set up on their secure mobile email and calendar solution, we’re adding new app configuration capabilities for Outlook mobile.

Ensure only corporate accounts are added to Outlook mobile—We recently rolled out a new experience to help ensure that adding only work accounts is straightforward and to help mitigate the risk of employees using personal accounts on company devices. For example, administrators can specify the corporate email and OneDrive for Business accounts that are allowed in Outlook mobile.

Administrators will be able to specify that only work accounts are added on company enrolled devices.

Additionally, we will be rolling out the capabilities listed below in the coming months to commercial Outlook mobile customers.

Scale deployments and enforce consistency—Administrators will soon be able to push specific Outlook mobile app configuration settings such as the on/off state for syncing or saving contacts, biometrics such as Touch ID, block external images, and MailTips, as well mail options such as Focused Inbox settings to their users. Standardizing these settings will simplify and scale the deployment of Outlook mobile while helping ensure that users have a consistent experience.

Enable faster account setup—Administrators will soon be able to push Outlook mobile account setup configurations for modern authentication capable accounts. This will ensure that employees use the correct work account setup information to get them up and running with Outlook mobile in no time. When setup is as simple as entering a password, there are fewer calls to your helpdesk and securing your mobile workforce is fast and easy. This feature is already available for Exchange on-premises customers for accounts that use basic authentication.

A new app configuration policy interface in Microsoft Intune—A new app configuration policy interface in the Intune console will initially support the ability to push account setup details for Exchange on-premises customers using basic authentication. In the coming months, we plan to continue to enhance the policy settings in this interface to manage the Outlook mobile feature settings, such as the ability to save or sync contacts and other app configuration capabilities.

Designed for all day use—introducing new ways to connect and organize

To help you accomplish more on the go, Outlook mobile will soon get new capabilities through Microsoft Teams and additional Office Lens integration, Favorite Notifications, and improved calendar experiences, so you can easily connect and organize to stay on top of what’s important.

Create and join a Teams meeting in Outlook mobile

As customers continue to embrace Teams for collaboration, we are excited to integrate Teams meetings in Outlook. You will soon be able to add an online Teams Meeting option to your calendar events and join a Teams Meeting right from Outlook. Our goal is to introduce this capability to Outlook mobile early in 2019.

More Office Lens technology coming to Outlook mobile

Ever been to a conference and had to keep track of numerous business cards? In addition to using Office Lens intelligent technology for photos, documents, and whiteboard images in Outlook mobile, you will be able to simply snap a picture of the card, and the contact details will be automatically saved in Outlook. Customers also have the confidence that the images will be used in compliance with their company’s app protection policies and device camera settings will be respected. This feature will start rolling out to Outlook for Android customers in the coming months.

Favorite Notifications helps you stay connected with the people who are important to you

There are some people in our lives whose communication should take priority, such as your boss, your significant other, or your kid, and you may want to respond to them in a timely manner. You will soon have the option set your notifications to “Favorites,” so you’re only notified when they send you an email or calendar event. Favorite Notifications are expected to start rolling out to Outlook mobile customers in the coming months.

Calendar sharing and calendar search capabilities

Improved calendar sharing—Today, we are making it easier to share schedules with coworkers and manage room reservations and delegated calendars. It’s as easy as adding a new calendar from the menu option in Outlook Calendar. Simply select Add Shared Calendars and search for people, rooms, or mailboxes. You will be able to add or view a coworker’s shared calendar or even a conference room that has a reservation calendar. We are rolling out this new Outlook mobile shared calendar experience to commercial customers now.

Search in calendar—And if you need to find a specific calendar event, we’re extending search in Outlook mobile beyond contacts, special reservations, deliveries, and files and will soon be adding search to calendar events. The Outlook mobile search experience is designed to help you find what you need even faster. This feature will start rolling out to Outlook mobile customers in the coming months.
