Every since I upgraded to the creators update I noticed in the Resource Monitor under Network that MSNBOT was trying to access my system. I blocked it in my hosts file. Ran virus scans which found nothing - should I be concerned.

  2. is msnbot used in windows 10?

    Rajeshwari,

Could I please ask you to clarify your response further? The information provided was the same information that we could find online. I guess the original poster did not specify, but being a Microsoft Support Engineer I would hope you would know that most
servers are not running Windows 10 as Windows 10 is a client machine.

I have the same issue with my Windows 8 client machine. I will specify here that this is not a server. Therefore, there should be no Microsoft bots crawling around on my computer. However, I also see the same connections to an MSN bot (labeled msbot-65-52-108-214)
when I do a netstat on my computer. This is before opening any browser or anything that should ever connect with Microsoft.

The question should be: has Microsoft repurposed their msnbot servers to do something else on my PC?

Your response was not helpful, since we know msnbots were changed to bingbots just by doing some simple Googling. The question is why is my Windows client machine connecting to one of these msnbots (as shown in netstat). Thank you.

    Regards,

  5. This could probably disable it.

How to Disable Bing in the Windows 10 Start Menu
    Code: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "DisableWebSearch" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "ConnectedSearchUseWeb" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f[/quote]

Well, I learn something new everyday! In my past life, I always welcomed a visit from msnbot because that was a sign my webserver pages were being considered for indexing in the old MSN search engine ; however, I have never seen it access my particular desktop unless I was running a webserver. So, has this changed?

Hmm... maybe it has changed if these ideas are correct?
