Windows 10: msPaint not working in other loactions

So as soon as I heard that MSpaint was moving to the Microsoft store, I scrambled to copy and paste the .exe to a backup drive to preserve it (I cant stand MS store apps) however when I try to open the mspaint.exe in any other location (like on my other drive) it will say "unable to create new document" does anyone know if MSpaint has certain dependency files or something?

Notepad and mspaint not working

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with notepad and mspaint not working. When was the last time it was working? Did you made any changes recently? What is your current
windows version and edition? Press Start then search Settings, select System then About.

1. Please try to perform DISM to scan for any system errors and corrupted files.

2. Please try to perform a clean boot of Windows 10. Determine whether a background program is interfering with notepad and mspaint.

3. Reinstall Notepad if it helps.

Press Start then search Manage optional features

Find Notepad on the list then click Uninstall

Restart your PC

After that, Press Start then search then search Manage optional features

Click Add a feature

Select Notepad then Install

Please try to open Notepad

Do the same for Microsoft Paint

4. Please try to create a new local administrator account then check if notepad and mspaint is working fine there.

WinME and mspaint

Here you are. This is the fileset you are looking for.
Put it in a new folder on your desktop, run the .exe inside the folder and it will extract the full MSPaint application. You can run it from within the folder, no need to install or replace anything. Even though it shows as a Win95 file it is functional in every O.S I've tried it in up to and including XP Pro. Surprised noone has suggested trying to upgrade to Vista.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
