  1. MSTSC client for Mac - no, NOT the "Microsoft Remote Desktop" app

On Windows I've long used both Remote Desktop Connection Manager RDCMan.exe and mstsc.exe to administer servers. I've started using "Microsoft Remote Desktop" shortened to MRD hereon also, as my organisation has several Azure Virtual Desktop published resources. While MRD is great to access AVD resources across multiple devices using the discovery feeds, my environment has literally hundreds - close to a 1000 - servers. Some of these I have never accessed. Others I have accessed once in a blue moon. On Windows devices, I can quickly and easily fire up mstsc.exe and get to one of these r

  2. Remote Desktop Freezing when using MSTSC but not when using Microsoft Remote Desktop App from Microsoft Store

As a company, we have clients connect to our network using a VPN and MSTSC. Since our company has gone fully remote, many of our users are experiencing a significant number of remote session freezes which require a disconnect and reconnect to the remote
session. Mouse movements and typing that occurred while frozen will appear upon reconnection.

We are able to avoid this freezing issue if using the Microsoft Remote Desktop App, offered through the Microsoft Store. Ericom Blaze can also establish and maintain a connection better than Windows installed MSTSC. On the MSTSC settings, I've tried reducing
the color to 15-bit and setting performance to low-speed as low as 56kbps. Despite these changes, freezes continue to occur in the windows installed MSTSC.

I would have all employee use the Remote Desktop App from the Microsoft Store, but it doesn't appear to support multi-screen connections.

What can I do to create a remote sessions with the connection smoothing of the Microsoft Remote Desktop App but with the multi-monitor ability of the Windows installed MSTSC?

  3. Microsoft Remote Desktop Mac Mouse porblems

    Hi Marco,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are using Remote Desktop application on Mac OS and want to simulate the PC mouse right click on your Mac Mouse.

In order to make use of the right-click inside an open session you have options of using:

    • Standard PC two button USB mouse
    • Apple Magic Mouse: To enable right-click, click
System Preferences in the dock, click Mouse, and then enable
      Secondary click.

For additional information you can also refer the following links:

    clients

Meanwhile, if you have any queries regarding Remote Desktop Services, you can also post your query in

    TechNet forums
, which would be the appropriate forum for RDP issues, where you will find professionals with expertise on Remote Desktop.

MSTSC client for Mac - no, NOT the "Microsoft Remote Desktop" app

    Remote Desktop

Yep. No doubt. That will work; however, firewall on or off on the Home Edition will make no difference if you are trying to connect to it via straight remote desktop as it does not have the feature necessary to accept an unattended incoming remote desktop
    service connection.

The Windows __ Home Editions have always had the CLIENT portion of the Remote Desktop Services.

START --> RUN --> type in:

    MSTSC

    ... Click OK.

That is the Remote Desktop Client. All Windows OSes have that.

Just not all Windows OS editions have the HOST/SERVER part - the part that allows one, with the remote system unattended, to remotely connect like you were sitting in front of it. The "Home" (and "starter / RT, etc. - other lower editions) editions are practically
the ONLY editions of Windows that fall in this category (and always have.)

Android and MacOS have downloadable (official) Microsoft Remote Desktop Clients available so you can remote into your business/professional/server level Microsoft systems (unattended systems that is - again, remote assistance is allowed even on "Home" editions)...

Again, sorry... but there are many free third party alternatives.
