    I have various issues on my computer. Most of them involve programs not launching correctly on the first attempt. Some of them try to launch with very old settings enabled. If I use the command"netsh winsock reset" the problem goes away, but only temporarily. So I figure something is corrupting the setting file "mswsock.dll" right? How could that be? I can't even back that file up manually.

    What am I missing here? Why would network sockets have anything to do with login information and document history? And what has permission to reset them like that?

    The problem is, that the required DLL is not actually even listed there.
    There are just dozens of download adware links from the top to the bottom.

    I actually posted the link for the "list of troubleshooting steps to resolve your boost_threads.dll problems" which is located half way down the page. I did not mean to promote any downloads.

    Why don't I just go back and indicate that on my original post? That way there's access to the 'step-by-step' instructions, which are accessed via those green 'plus' signs next to the topics.

    I have a question related to the above issue, and while I think I know the answer, I just want to confirm before going this route if all else fails.

    I purchased Windows 8 a few years back and eventually upgraded to Windows 10 when MS presented customers with the free upgrade. Very stupidly, I never created recovery media, and unfortunately, I also can't seem to be able to download Windows 10 (as stated
    in this thread), so I am thinking that purchasing a copy of Windows 10 for the repair is the next best option. I currently have 64-bit Windows 10 Home on my PC, so am I able to purchase Windows 10 Home (same OS) at a retailer to repair my missing dll file
    issue? I assume a repair can be made with another Windows 10 Home disc, but I wanted to make sure before I took this option up.
