Windows 10: MSXML downloads missing?

So I went to try and play an older game, Age of Empires 3, only to be confronted with an error message that I have never received before. MSXML 4.0 hasn't been installed correctly. This game requires it to run. So I went to the microsoft downloads page to download 4.0, thinking that maybe a new service pack for 6 made games that run on 4.0 not compatible with the newer version. I did just install a new Windows update recently as well. But to my surprise, all of the download links for all of the msxml files show up as 404 error pages. Is microsoft no longer supporting msxml or is this a dramati

What version of MsXml is used as default by MsXsl.exe

Hi Team,

We currently have MsXml versions 3.0, 4.0 and 7.0 on our Windows 2012 server. We use MsXsl.exe to process xslt files into csv in our application. MsXml version 4.0 has been flagged by our infra team that it should be removed as it is no longer in Microsoft
support. We found that MsXsl.exe we use is of version 4.0 and assume it consumes MsXml 4.0.

Could you please help us with below questions,

1. How to find what version of MsXml is called/consumed by our MsXsl.exe(4.0)
2. What is the default version of MsXml for MsXsl.exe(version 4.0)
3. How to manually force MsXsl.exe to point to a different MsXml version
4. The latest version of MsXsl.exe we could download from
   Microsoft is 3.0. What version of MsXml will it consume by default ?

MSXML Clean-up

Hello all,

I have a customer that wants to delete all older versions of MSXML (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0) on Win10/7 workstations and just leave 6.0 (Latest). From what I see in this document we still support 3.0 and 5.0:

Is it recommended to remove these older versions from the workstations?

1. Are you working on Domain network environment?
   
2. How are you trying to install MSXML 4.0?
   

Method 1: Download MSXML 4.0 from Microsoft update catalogue

1. Navigate to the link
   https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB2758694
   
2. Click on the Download button beside Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 3 for x64-based Systems (KB2758694)
   
3. Select the language in which you want to download the update.
   
4. Once the .exe file is downloaded, right click on the .exe file and select
   Run as Administrator.
   
5. Follow the on screen instructions to install the update.
   
6. Once the update is installed restart the computer.
   

Method 2: Usually, we see 0x80070490 error if there are corruption in certain components of the operating system.

We can run the DISM command to check for the corrupted components and repair them. To run the DISM command follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Type Command prompt
   in the search bar.
   
2. Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select
   Run as Administrator.
   
3. Copy and paste the following command in Command prompt:
   Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
   
4. Once the process is completed restart the computer.
   

Method 3: Install MSXML 4.0 in Compatibility mode.

You can try installing MSXML 4.0 update in Compatibility mode. To install the update in Compatibility mode follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Right-click on the .exe file of the update and select "Properties".
   
2. Select "Compatibility" Tab.
   
3. Place a check mark next to "Run this program in Compatibility mode" and select the appropriate operating system from the drop down list.
   
4. Let the update install.
   
5. Once the update is installed restart the computer.
