Windows 10: Multiple issues - chrome, folders not opening

Hello,Hoping someone can help me.My laptop has stopped opening desktop icons - if I go to the start menu I can open the apps e.g. Chrome there.When I try and open folders, it isn't happening just get the loading circle or if it is, very rarely are things loading - this could be folders locally, via Dropbox or OneDrive.When I try and download files e.g. excel spreadsheet via chrome, it gets stuck before completing the downloadIf I go via the app I want to open the file in e.g. Word, it seems to work if I can select from recent documentsI already used BitDefender when I got this new laptop an

Open With on multiple files?

you can do this using a workaround by using "Send to" on the right click context menu in Windows File Explorer. Here's how

Step 1 - Add Chrome shortcut to SendTo folder so that chrome may appear in the send to menu.

SendTo folder:%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

This can be done in one of several ways. I will mention one of the easiest below.

• Right-drag the Google Chrome shortcut that was created on the Desktop when Chrome installed, or the Chrome shortcut in the Start menu, to the SendTo folder and select Copy.
  

Note: Right-click this shortcut, select Properties, and confirm that the Target field contains no command line options, just the path + file name for Chrome.

Step 2: Select the 16 JPGs, right click, go to "Send to" & select "Google Chrome".

That's it. All JPGs will open in Chrome, each in its own tab.

I use this with Firefox, but it should work with Chrome too.





Troubleshoot #1

If Google Chrome doesn't appear in the "Send to" menu, try restarting Windows File Explorer from Task Manager.

Troubleshoot #2

If the JPGs open in multiple windows, you might want to consider installing an extension in Chrome to prevent this behaviour. I suggest One Window.

 

Google Chrome Crahses and suspended in task manager

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Could you please help me with the below information:

1. Do you have any antivirus installed on the computer?
   
2. Are you aware of making any changes to the computer or browser prior to the issue?
   

This issue is because of profile data corruption on google chrome or because of cookies, extensions, plugins and History. I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to resolve this issue.

Method 1: Rename Google chrome file.


Before proceeding I would suggest you end all the task related to Google Chrome from task manager.

Step 1: Rename Chrome User Data file.

1. Press Windows and
   E key together on your Keyboard.
2. Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome.
   
3. Search for User data folder. Rename this folder to UserData.old
4. Open the chrome now and check if it is working.
   

Note:
The new user data folder will be created automatically, but
new profile will not have any of your previous data in it. To access the data back, try signing out and signing in back to the application. Or you have to manually copy the data from old profile.

Step 2: Copy the previous data to New Profile.


I would suggest you end all the task related to Google Chrome from task manager.
Then follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows and
   E key together on your Keyboard.
2. Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\UserData.old\Default.
   
3. Open a new tab and navigate to: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default. (Make sure this is the new user data folder)
   
4. Now copy the file one by one, once the copy is done. In-between Reopen Chrome browser and check if there is issue same issue.
   
5. If the issue reoccurs, then the culprit is one of the file copied above.
   

Method 2:
Troubleshoot on google chrome.

Note: The Uninstall and Reinstall option might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added, this will also clear the history, favorites, cookies and password. We recommend
that you note these sites and settings before you use the Reset on chrome.

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in the article on
Fix Chrome if it crashes or won't open.

Have had multiple issues with opening files and opening task manager.

Method 1: I suggest you to follow below steps and check.

Step 1: I suggest you to install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

• Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
• Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
• Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

Step 2: I recommend you to download the Microsoft Safety Scanner from the following link and check if it helps.

Method 2: Regarding the issue with game on steam using google chrome, I suggest you to try playing the games using internet explorer and check whether the issue persists or not.

If the game works using internet explorer and the issue persist only with google chrome, then I suggest you to contact google chrome support for further assistance with the issue.
