Windows 10: Multiple Issues on Windows + MS Store - Lots of error 0x80072f8f

Hello,

For around a week I've been having continuing and worsening issues with my PC.

• It initially started with the Xbox App needing updated, it sent me to the Microsoft Store where it (and, as I discovered) and any other app updates immediately error'd giving me the code: 0x80072f8f.
• I then noticed that there were 3 Windows Updates which were suffering from the same issue (however this has naturally resolved itself - but there's another issue.)
• Quick searches found this error code is usually associated with the time & date not being set automatically by Windows - I checked and mine is fine.
• Pressing X/Cancel on any of the MS Store updates meant I couldn't find the required update any longer (ie. for Xbox) - and pressing 'Get Updates' at the top right does nothing and the Store is "searching" forever.
• In trying to fix it/wait it out I discovered another issue. Many basic Windows tools (Task Manager, PowerShell) take *ages* to open. eg. I click on task manager and it's completely unresponsive and then, suddenly, around half an hour later it will finally open.
• I decided to try uninstall the Xbox App and reinstall it fully to see if it would work. I unistalled successfully but now can't reinstall. When I try from the MS website and download the .exe it gets halfway through installing then error's showing the same code. When I try from the MS Store App I get the exact same issue as before - an immediate error.
• Now, in Updates & Security the updates tab is showing "Error encountered: We couldn’t connect to the update service. We’ll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn’t work, make sure that you’re connected to the Internet."
• The strange thing is, the rest of the PC is working perfectly. I can play games well (as long as it's not Xbox), Firefox continues to work smoothly and not pre-installed Microsoft apps like Word and Powerpoint work absolutely fine.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue is? This error code seems to be most of the issue but it seems a lot of Windows/MS stuff in general is just not working. Any help would be appreciated tenfold!!

All this looks alright, except the SFC /SCANNOW command returned a note about there being some corrupt files - I have the log saved if (part of?) it would be useful?

Puzzling. Tends to suggest permissions errors or other corruption.

As a matter of routine, please run these basic checks.
a. Check your disk e.g.
HD Tune (free) Health and Error scan tabs (e.g. from Softpedia).
b. If ok, run
chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt
c. if ok, run
SFC /SCANNOW
similarly

Report the summary results.

What is the status of these services?

If you haven't already- but do it again anyway.. unset and set time to synch automatically.




Reset Advanced Settings:




Have you ever modified your HOSTS file or run any 3rd party utilty that may have done so?
By default it looks like this:




Check UAC is enabled
and try
Re-register Microsoft Store app in Windows 10

Then try the Store download and updates again.
