  1. Multiple Occurrences for the Same Application in "App Volume and Device Preferences"

I'm currently trying to configure my audio settings to work as-needed for streaming with OBS, aided by VoiceMeeter Potato VMP. In VMP I am seeing multiple occurrences of the same application under the same virtual outputs. After confirming with VoiceMeeter support that this is not a VMP issue it's occurring because Windows has the apps listed multiple times under the "App Volume and Device Preferences" menu, I started looking into what I could do to resolve this issue.

As you'll see from the highlighted items in the attached image, I have multiple occurrences of Discord and Microsoft Edge showing. Edge makes some sense, I suppose, since I have two instances of that application currently running, however, there's no distinction in the names and it would make sense to me that there should be a dropdown instead of two separate line items or just a single input/output selection for the app "Microsoft Edge."

However, with Discord, I only have one instance of the application running; there shouldn't be multiple examples of it in this menu if Edge is showing up because there's two windows open.

This system's just brutal for rerouting my audio and it's making this whole process far more complicated that it really ought to be.

    Any suggestions?

    :)

Sound: App Volume and Device Preferences Question

    Hey folks -

My "search-fu" is a bit weak on this one and I haven't been able to find out whether someone else has seen and/or fixed this problem. First thing: I have multiple sound playback devices via a single USB connection into a mixer. It's 16 stereo playback devices and 16 stereo recording/line-in devices. All good. Those work fine.

In the "Sound Settings --> App volume and device preferences" window, I have various applications set to use different playback devices via the aforementioned USB connection. When I make the change in the Settings window, all is good. The application (eg: Chrome) instantly starts using the configured device. If I quit the app and restart it sometime later, it begins playing its sound over the Default sound device. Even though the Settings window still shows it attached to a different playback device. I have to change it, and change it again, and it begins playing over the correct device.

It's like Windows is forgetting that I've got the app assigned to device XYZ vs the default.

Is there some interesting work-around/fix for this?

    OS is Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, 1809.

    Thanks!

How to add desktop shortcut to App volume device preferences?

Thanks. That script opens the Device Properties page for the Mic - see attached screenshot. Any idea how the script can be modified to open the App volume device preferences screen?

    App volume device preferences assistance

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We appreciate your effort on this. We understand that you want to configure sound profile for your application.

As per the description, we would like to inform you that the apps displayed under
App volume device preferences are the ones, which show current sound outputs. The app list gets updated if any application outputs sound.

We can change the option Output for the application i.e. to speaker/headphones using the drop down. By default, it will use the settings that are being used by the computer.

    Refer the screenshot below:

Currently, we can create a custom profile only for sound theme this applies to events in Windows and programs. You can do that by following the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open
      Run
      dialog box.
    2. Type mmsys.cpl and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Click on Sounds tab.
    4. Now, you can click on any sound under Windows and select a sound from the drop down for
      Sounds.
    5. Once you have selected the sound, you can click on
Save As and save the profile.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
